Feature request - Shared viewing like VR but without headsets

Can you guys implement the group viewing like you have in the VR but without the VR headset requirement? So several friends could basically watch the same movie (one person hosts it and the others receive it) and have a voice/text chat channel that could run on a PC/phone/tablet at the same time?

how this got added for VR, and NOT for users without VR, is truly remarkable to me.

Couldnt agree more. I think a lot of users on here have been asking for similar (myself included) for a lonnnng time.

it wouldnt even need to be that involved. give admins the ability to start a “room” or make what other people are watching visable and “joinable”.

Really want this…

Anyone looked at Plex Labs page for the SyncLounge shown at the bottom.

That sounds kinda like what I was talking about, but it seems dead. The page is just a snapshot and there is nothing to download. But doing a google search I found this site: http://plextogether.com/ which seems to be the same thing, synclounge, so maybe they changed their website?

ETA: Nope. when you click “get started” it takes you to a dead page too. In addition, it apparently requires everyone to have the same video in their plex library and just syncs the playback. I was wanting something that would allow me to share my movies with friends, and them to share theirs with me for a group movie night. I would host and stream the video to the others.

OK I found something that will do the job. Not made specifically for plex but will basically let you and friends share any internet site, including your plex account and it has video chat and text chat. You and your friends basically have a shared browser window. You can log onto plex (or netflix, or youtube) and start playing your content and everyone can watch together. And it’s free.
