One thing that I have noticed when using the “shuffle” feature in Plexamp is that it very frequently has songs from the same artist and even the same album back to back. Is there a way to implement some rules in the code for shuffle that if the same artist/album end up next in the list to “bump” that song forward ‘X’ amount of songs in the sequence? I don’t know if there is a way to improve upon shuffling but it would certainly be nice.
Here is the perfect example. I clicked on the shuffle icon, and it has 3 Bouncing Souls songs from the same album back to back.
“Server” is a placeholder for your server’s name. It appears above of “Status”
Click on “Library”
‘Show Adanced’ is at the right side of the screen, higher up
but to be clear, Smart Shuffling (at least in recent servers) does do something along the lines of "rules in the code for shuffle that if the same artist/album end up next in the list ". there was a bug which biased towards artists with a single track, but that’s been fixed and will be out in the next server release.
what exactly are you shuffling which is ending up with that repetition? can you post the server log right after doing it?
I was going to Style, Mood, or Genre and clicking the Shuffle icon. But it is never really random as I would expect it to be. After following Otto’s suggestion it seems to be performing an actual random shuffle pattern. I’ll test it more to be certain and if I’m still seeing issues I’ll download the logs. Thanks!
I wouldn’t mind if the shuffle still followed the rules of the star ratings that I personally add to the tracks, but I don’t want my shuffle to be influenced by any external sources of rules on what’s popular.
