Currently MP3 files that are streamed from Plex server are having some of their metadata removed, such as the Description and Composer tags.
Prologue, the brilliant audio book player for Plex, recently added support to display the audio book Narrator (from Composer tag) and Description metadata. This works fine for M4B files but not for MP3s as the data is stripped out when streaming from the server, even if it already exists in the file metadata.
Please can Plex stop removing this data when streaming, so MP3 audio books work better?
The Plex scanner doesn’t support these tags, and neither do the client apps. There’s a bigger request to add support for many currently unused tags here:
It doesn’t require them to be supported in Plex per se - they just need to be not removed from the file when it is streamed from Plex, since Prologue itself is able to read these tags from the audio files themselves. The Composer/Description metadata currently works for M4B files in Prologue since the metadata in the file is streamed directly to Prologue. With MP3s from what I understand the tags are converted to ID3v1.1 for streaming which strips out the existing Description and Composer metadata.
