Plex Web App, Plex for Roku, Plex for SmartTV have the ability to select which subtitles we want to use during playback. Unfortunately this is not possible with PS4 application (version 1.40) and PS3 application (version 1.41). By default it selects subtitles matching the language set as default in Plex Media Server, however this brings two issues.
First issue, we can’t decide which subtitle stream we want to use when we have several external SRT files.
Second issue, if we have subtitles selected by default the content will be transcoded for almost all formats for PlayStation. If you use Plex Media Station on some budget NAS devices then you will get an error that “This server is not powerful enough to convert video” (transcode). Ability to disable subtitles would come in handy for those situations.
Without this I need to manually go to Plex Media Server to turn off default subtitle language or remove SRT files from the NAS disk.
It would be great if there would be playback settings button or vid/aud/sub stream selection like on Roku and SmartTV apps.
