I couldn’t find a formal request for this (outside of some people discussing it in the general forum), but now that snapping has been removed from Xbox One I can’t use Plex to play music while the app isn’t running in the foreground. This feature is present in the Windows 10 Universal app that is on Windows 10 (desktop and mobile) and I would really love to have it on the Xbox One app, especially as I have many members in my house that want an easy to use music streaming app when playing Xbox. Groove, VLC, iHeartRadio, and Pandora have background audio (just to name a few) and I hope to see Plex add support soon!
A big plus is the media controls are nice and convenient to access (for volume, play/pause, and skipping) without having to switch apps completely (screenshot that I found online below).
Would be awesome to see this happen since the feature has been available in the OS for quite some time at this point. I encountered a scenario just today where background music would have been great, but alas it wasn’t there from Plex.
This is so needed! I’ve started using Spotify a little bit because it has background audio on Xbox One and it makes gaming so much fun. I would love to be able to play Plex audio that way!
I understand that this is a needed feature request, but I have been able to play from my plex library using “background music player” from the microsoft store. Not as elegant a solution, and it does cost 1.49. Just wanted to give the solution if anyone wanted to go that way
App on xbox is useless for me without this feature. Many modern tvs have a built in plex app. Only benefit of plex on Xbox is to listen to music while gaming.
I was disappointed to see this feature was not available when I was trying to listen to music on my Xbox through Plex. It seems there’s no plans to implement this, given the age of the request, I guess Spotify will continue to beat Plex in this regard .
plex for the xbox one is almost perfect its a little slow but thats ok the one thing that would make it perfect is if i could play music in the background while im playing games or in the store its the one reason i cant replace sotifiy as my main music app on the xbox one such a feature would make this the best music app hands down on the xbox one so with all that said is there any plans to add this feature in the future?
Definitely this. I am currently having to use a different app to look for PLEXs DLNA server and it would so much better to just do it inside of PLEX itself.
