Feature Suggestion - Saved Queues

First of all I love Plexamp and I use it every day, however there is one missing feature that would significantly enhance my experience - the ability to save my queue and return to it later. I do use collections and playlists, and I know that I can save the current queue as a playlist, but that doesn’t really work for me. I don’t want to save the queue forever - I just want to pop out of it for a while, listen to something else, and then return to it exactly where I left off.

I usually listen to entire albums, not singles, and I will add albums randomly to my queue as I think of them for whatever reason. It’s very organic and unplanned, but once I think of an artist/album and add it to the queue I want to hear it before I lose that queue. But I also go for a run every day, and when I run I like to shuffle through a specific playlist of high-energy songs I have curated just for that purpose, which means I have to abandon my current queue then rebuild it from scratch. Another use-case for me is being in the car with my family. If I am listening to, say, Celtic Frost, my wife will quickly turn the stereo off, so I usually pop into the ‘Car Playlist (Wife in Car Edition)’ for the trip. But again, my current queue is now history. If I was just listening to a specific album that wouldn’t be an issue, but in reality I may have dozens of albums queued up and only be a fraction of the way through the list.

So what I want is the ability to have multiple queues and to switch between them. Call it Saved Queues, A-queue/B-queue, Alternate Queue, whatever. I just want to be able to pop out of my current queue and listen to something else for a while, then resume my original queue whare I left off.

Thank you.

You have ability to save the play queue as a playlist. Touch the three dot menu at the bottom of the player screen, then swipe up to reveal this option.

FYI, this will save the entire queue, so when you return to play this playlist you will have to remember where you left off. Alternately, you can go to the newly created playlist and swipe away the tracks that have already played.

I use this method on a regular basis to back up my current queue. I mostly shuffle huge, multiple days long, playlists. I used to get aggravated when I would inadvertently replace the queue with an erratic touch, but no longer. Now, when I first start a playlist on shuffle, I will save the queue as playlist name temp. Occasionally, as tracks have been played, I will edit the temporary playlist to remove the previously played tracks. This way, if I slip up and alter the queue, I can resume where I was by selecting the temp playlist.

Hope this helps

Yes, as I said I have used that feature in the past as a work-around, and it does have its uses, but it simply isn’t convenient. I still have to remember where I left off and I have to remember to go delete that playlist when I’m done or else I wind up with a bunch of them. If I meander off and build a fresh queue that I want to save I have to save it with a new name, otherwise PlexAmp merges the current queue with the “saved” queue and I wind up with both of them in the playlist. If I’m in a hurry because the family is piling into the car I usually don’t have time to jump through those hoops. Right now my main work-around it to quit PlexAmp and use Spotify instead so I don’t lose my PlexAmp queue, but frankly I’d rather stick with a single app if possible.

I think the ability to have an alternate queue or profile that users can quickly switch between would further enhance the functionality of an already great player.
