I can’t seem to find a direct answer to this specific question. It seems as though my file names are no longer staying uniform. Take my folder for Bob’s Burgers for example.
Season 8? The episodes show up as just the episode name. Perfect. Love it.
Season 1? The episodes show up as Bob’s Burgers S01E01 - Episode Name.
It’s a minor annoyance on a computer, but on a small phone screen, this often means that I can’t even see episode titles any more because it’s showing up as TV Series Name S01E… and then it cuts off before the actual episode name.
Any idea what might be causing this? It’s happening with several series, and from what I can see so far, my naming conventions are all uniform (using Bob’s Burgers again as an example, my file names are Bobs Burgers S01E01 and Bobs Burgers S08E01 - but see above for the name discrepancies inside Plex).

Try… Adjust the Agents order so the local media assets is at the bottom of the list.
No luck. It’s already at the bottom of the list (the only thing above it is Personal Media Shows, which can’t be de-selected). I also tried de-selecting local media assets and refreshing metadata, but there wasn’t any change.
edit: okay, I was only looking at one spot - found the right area, moved the LMA listing down, and refreshed again. It worked this time…sort of. Some shows updated, but some still didn’t (I’m looking at you, Simpsons.)
TheTVDB had serious issues in the past days. So your trouble could be related to TheTVDB failing to deliver episode titles. Which then causes Plex to ‘fall back’ to embedded titles.
