File Naming for courses

We homeschool and purchased a course for Algebra. It comes on about 50 DVD’s and workbooks. I’m trying to figure out the best way to name and organize all the files. Keeping everything in order and organized with the naming is important because it ties back to the workbook which might say they are on “Module A Unit I Part A Mathematical Expressions”. It would be nice if Plex could then show them in similar sub-sections. Here’s an example of the naming from the first two discs. Ideas?

Disc 01 Module A Unit I Intro
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part A 01 Mathematical Parts of Speech
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part A 02 Mathematical Expressions
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part A 03 Translation of Mathematical Symbols
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 01 The Development of Our Number System
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 02 Fraction Forms and Decimal Forms
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 03 Changing Fraction Forms to Decimal Forms
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 04 Changing Decimal Forms to Fraction Forms
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 05 Percent
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 06 Primes Composites and Factoring
Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B 07 Greatest Common Factor
Disc 02 Module A Unit I Part C 01 Order of Operations
Disc 02 Module A Unit I Part C 02 Properties of Operations with Special Numbers
Disc 02 Module A Unit I Part C 03 Operations with Fractions: Multiplication

For a library like that most people would use an “other videos” library and you can name it any way you like it. There is no metadata for those videos, so you would likely have those videos being falsely matched with actual TV shows or movies in a regular tv or movie library.

You can then make a collection for each subset of videos. A collection for all the Disc 01 Module A Unit I videos and one for Disc 01 Module A Unit I Part B ect… or however you prefer it

If you want long term usage of your work ripping them, go with the meticulous task of setting it up using the TV Show Library. There you can break these disks into Seasons aka Lessons. Not knowing how severely complex this will be, I’m not sure yet how I personally would break them down. This would be something you’d have to decide for yourself. What I do know is PLANNING before hand seems important as setting it up as a TV Show will require metadata to be saved, which in itself is time consuming.

If you want something far more easier, go with your own folder and file structure, create a OTHER video library and see if all of them get scanned. Be sure to use the Personal Media agents when setting up the OTHER Library type. This is important.

Then just break down lessons using COLLECTIONS, which might be easier for you to name than setting them up as a TV Show, which again, is far more meticulous and agonizing than this.
