File naming for groups of Lessons?

I’m using Plex to store different video lessons I have for learning guitar, piano, etc. Each of these are muti-part lessons, and I would like to be able to easily navigate to, for example, Lesson 5 of “Beginning Guitar”, or Lesson 6 of “Playing the Blues”

Currently I have the video files grouped all into a directory according to whatever lesson series it is, and Named something like “L01 - Strumming Techniques”, “L02 - Picking Notes”, etc… or “D01L01 - Intro to Piano” (Disk 1 Lesson 1) but Plex won’t display this nicely or show that there are mutiple lessons. In order to browse the files I need to switch to the “Folder” view.

I don’t want to have to put these into a TV Folder and name them as season 1 episode 1, etc… Is there any good naming convention for grouping multiple lessons under a main title. Some of these titles also have a distinction between Lesson Videos and Practice Videos all under the same title. I can arrange these into folders in a way that make sense, but have not found a way that looks good in the Plex UI.

I am curious to hear what other people are doing and/or if a feature can be added to Plex that allows for grouping of videos by lesson/topic.

Thanks!

Plex doesn’t play nice with education type media. I had to figure this one out myself. Check the link in my SIG and read the first post which will show you a tutorial on one way you can do this.

Hi Carlo,

I read over the first post in your thread, but didn’t see where it talked about handling a series of lessons like this. Instead I saw info about sharing files, DVRs, etc. Did you mean to refer to a different post?

Thanks,

Oh, I see your relevant post a few posts down that talks about using Season/Episode naming.

I thoughI have to put things into a “TV” library for naming like that - it may work out, and I’ll give it a try. I would like to see Plex directly address having a series of related videos without needing to pretend they are seasons/episodes of a TV show.

Thanks.

It works but it’s not ideal by any means. But it’s the only way I’ve found to setup a library for this type of content and get usable listings in Plex.
