File Naming for TV Series in Plex folders

That fits what I said above:
“Files (correctly) named like a tv show episode are ignored in Movie libraries and vice versa.”

OK, I have done some more testing, and it seems you are right!!! (Gotta love that). I am absolutely certain these things were winking out before, but I have now tested and proven it is the occurrence of a pattern including an S and an E with numbers following each that causes the deletion from a movie folder. So any name including, for instance S1234E5678 would not be accepted as allowed to be shown in a movie library. SE1234 is fine, but S1E234, no way.

So that solves this puzzle as to cause - it is a designed in feature, love it or don’t…

Yep, they’re all turning up now. Takes a while to scan, but this is the core problem solved. It seems that organising series into folders is possibly necessary for your sanity as they aren’t sorting too well, all in one folder, but that is the extent of the issue wrt exact naming conventions. Whereas my discipline to use names that sort perfectly in a DOS naming way is apparently superseded by some other priority that I am yet to get to the bottom of, but all perfectly visible pathways to sort it.

So my core defect was putting tv files in a movies library. The Plex dance, as stated, wouldn’t have worked. For anyone else making my mistake, what you need to do is rename the problem directory, delete the Library in Plex and just make a new one using TV shows, name it what you like and point it at the renamed folder. That is enough to fix this mess as the original folder cannot be recycled in the way described as ‘type’ is locked.

No. It should be:

/Series-Watched/Banshee/Season 04/Banshee - S04E06.mp4”

Just as a postscript to this, I have no idea what my original real problem was that caused me to redo the Plex on nVidia Shield Pro where TV series were in a TV library, but it is working beautifully now. The instructions for filing in specific folders may have been true once, but no more. It is sufficient to have separate folders for each series (and even that may not be needed, but I haven’t tried it), then select to display as TV Shows, with Sorted by Title, and it is beautifully presented. Open any show and inside are the Season folders, whether they are in separate folders or not. And the meta data all makes sense and matches the actual episode. In the library settings, I did tick for adult content in case that messes up pulling down useful meta on obviously R rated series (not that I ever checked rating!), but otherwise all standard options for a new tv library created under above quoted Plex version.

All up, a pretty nice job by Plex, now my one little whoopsie mistake is corrected!

Not following the Plex naming convention may work now but can stop working at any time.
Using the prescribed naming convention, Season folders, will work.

People post very often saying it can’t be my file naming because it worked yesterday.
