So I've been running plex for several months now and I just added some shows for my son. Sesame Street and Word World and a couple of others. For some reason Plex is not adding them to the library.
When I login via the web and click on "View by Folder" I see the folders, when I login to my linux box and look in the folders I see mkv files and shows in all the folders.
However Plex thinks they are empty when "View by Folder" and there is no poster images or anything.
I renamed the Sesame street file to something simple in case it was a naming problem and I even renamed the folder to something simple as well. All directories are 777 for the hell of it.
I've never had this problem with any of Tv shows, Saturday Night Live, Arrow, Nashville, etc.. even movies I've had no problems. I have a total of 32 folders and only 16 of those folders are showing up under the "Kids" Channel I created for my son.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
tv show files in a tv show library need to be named with the proper notation or plex will ignore them as it will think they are not shows and don't belong there. The "by folder" view is still only for things it picked up.
I have this similar issue, however Plex sees 3 of the 13 episodes. I've even gone through and renamed the files to "E1 - Name" and "Name E1", but nothing. I've deleted the library and have cleared the trash and what not as well, and then recreated the library but with little differences. The only vidoes that show are the same videos that were there before.
I'm not sure anyone can "fix" it since it is not really broken. It is just how it works...
I suggest you try a tool like FileBot and see what it can find for your files. If FileBot has any problem identifying them then you can be sure Plex will have the same problem. Also make sure your permissions on each file are correct. Plex can't catalog was Plex can't see...

Anythoughts?
First thought is that your naming is wrong by what you have posted.
Example path to file:
TV\The Walking Dead\Season 1\The Walking Dead - S01E01 - Pilot.mkv
If you are only using "E1 - The Walking Dead", this is not what plex is looking for. Also note the folder structure above. The TV folder at the root would be the folder the plex library is pointing at. As @dewd said, check out filebot as it will name the files appropriately for you and set up the folder structure.
Anything special needed for naming "The Voice" episodes ? I have
\media\TV Shows\The Voice (US)\Season 07\The Voice (US) - 7x03 - The Blind Auditions, Part 3
and Plex won't pick up that episode. It's the only file in that folder too. When I update the library, it appears to "see" the folder. Also, the episode was named by FileBot.
I have tried a variety of other tweaks to the folder name and filename, including adding "(2014)" to the folder and the filename, using S07E03 (only) instead of the convention that FileBot uses, dropping the "0" from the season number in the folder name, etc, etc
Same here, started this week with files that share the same format and naming convention as stuff that worked last week - something was silently updated that broke everything.
Same thing, they were working fine the week before, and they stopped. I had to delete the library thinking that I am doing something wrong, added the library again, movies work but shows don't.
Nothing is happening, today I tried a movie and nothing....I also tried restarting PLEX server, it is like Plex does not even recognize that something new is in that drive, even if I named the movie Godzilla2014.mkv
BigWheel, thanks. I did sudo chown -R plex /MyTVShowFolder, now my TV Shows are appearing in the library.
P.S. Even better, I put all my tv shows in /media/tv instead as suggested by ChuckL. TV Shows are recognized out of the box without doing anything else. Details are explained here:
This would be better in the windows subforum with a description of the problem you're having. There are many things you can "play" with permissions, not knowing your problem it will not be easy to tell you what to do. If you just want to play, right click the folder and go to properties and go to the security tab.
Also, you posted in a Linux forum, most of us know windows as well, but it's really not the right place.
