I am using the latest version of the Plex app (along with the latest version of the PMS app) on an NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro. I have a 1TB external hard drive connected, and want to be able to serve the media on this drive to my other devices using Plex.
I am able to view and play all the files using other apps, such as Kodi and various file explorers, but I am not able to do so on the Plex app. All libraries come up empty.
I’ve enabled storage access, used different drives, messed with a few app settings. But I can’t seem to figure out what’s going on here. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
You may already know these items below, but starting with the basics.
First, do you have the files in the correct sub-folders on the external drive? Due to permissions, the external drive must have an NVIDIA_SHIELD folder. I do not remember if this was just for DVR write capability, but is a good place to start. PMS does not have root privileges.
You also did not mention how you are trying to access the media. You mentioned empty libraries, but not if you have them pointing to the media folder(s). This is done from the web interface under SETTINGS->MANAGE->LIBRARIES.
You were totally right. Plex seemed to be pointing to the root directory by default, strangely enough, and so I moved all my media folders to the NVIDIA_SHIELD folder and pointed the libraries there instead. Totally worked.
