Filtering movies that don't have labels

Hello there! I was setting up a user for my daughter and have been adding labels to movies in order to share only those movies with her (only want to share the movies I’ve watched myself yet and that I think are okay for her to watch).

So time by time I would like to continue sharing movies with her.

I would then like to filter movies by label – though I would like Plex to only show the movies that don’t have a label yet (the ones that are not shared yet with my daughter), so I could go through them and see which one of these I put the label on in order to share them with her. Is this possible? Or is there another approach to this?

Thanks in advance!

I don’t know the answer to that question, but just in case this helps: I have setup a share for my nieces based on “MPAA rating” and that’s easy and update-able as labels.

@aram535 Thank you for that tipp!

Though using the label approach I would still like to find out if it’s possible to only show movies that don’t have a label to see an overview of the movies I haven’t shared yet.

(I plan to do the same for my parents, which is only sharing hand-picked movies with them that I know myself. Later I would like to share more movies with them and it’d be super helpful to have an overview of non-shared movies).

Something like: Filter movies by Label: ‘without’ ‘name of label

Yes, I need the ability to find movies without a label or multiple labels as well. I have three movies out of a large collection that don’t have a label and it’s impossible to tell which movies they are without looking one-by-one at each movie’s labels.

Me too.

It’s the only thing I’m waiting for, the ability to show only items that have no labels assigned.

also really needing this feature… though it being posted in “os x” is maybe not the best category?
(i’d be happy to have it just in the webinterface )

Hello all!

It’s been a year now and as far as I can tell there is still no option to filter movies without labels or by multiple labels.

I would have expected this to be part of the Custom filter, where one could set contains/does not contain – However there is no Label category available here.

I think if Labels could be in option to chose from in the Custom Search that would be a great feature.

I’m also starting a new thread in the Feature Request section, as OS X is probably not the best section for this – Thanks for the note @densplitter

I’ve added the feature request here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/267945/add-labels-category-to-custom-filter/p1?new=1

Feel free to upvote it by liking the request.

Thanks!

The feature request page seems to not exist any more. I guess this is yet another great feature that has been sucked into the black hole of the Plex developer’s rubbish bins…

So… with no official way of doing it, I have whipped up a small perl script that will get around the problem.

It simply looks through the database (it’s a simple sqlite3 database and easy enough to work with) and find any items in a library with no labels. To those items it finds it then adds an “Untagged” label - which you can then easily filter on.

It’s on Github if anyone wants to play with it: https://github.com/majenkotech/plex-untagged

I work on Linux, so I don’t know how easy it would be to get it going on other systems.

Thanks for the script. Silly that such a simple feature request to implement goes ignored by the devs.

I’ve of the major advantages of open source… You want a feature, you can add it yourself - or someone somewhere will if it’s wanted enough… No need to wait for a corporate roadmap to get around to it.

This worked like absolute charm. Brilliant, mate.
