Fire Cube (3rd gen) won't play AAC audio

Any movie or show that’s encoded with AAC audio comes out muted and with a high pitched whine when watched on the Fire Cube. This doesn’t happen on the web app nor does it happen on the LG TV app (when it works; whole other story).

I’ve tried uninstalling / reinstalling. Any other ideas to fix it (aside from re-encoding all my media away from AAC which I’ll do if I must)?
