Server Version#: Latest Version
Player Version#: Latest Version as per Fire TV App Store
Hello,
I wanted to see if this is a known issue elsewhere, however I have not yet come across any other posts. I currently have my server setup for remote access along with my Dad who has his Plex server setup for remote access.
He accesses my recordings and Live TV and vice versa.
The problem is, the Fire TV App consistently fails at connecting to the server(s) and ultimately crashes the application when trying to do so. Here is what I know.
The issue is specific to the FireTV app (Tested on 3 different FireTV 4K Max devices, across both homes)
Occasionally, force closing the app and re-opening re-establishes the connection to remote servers for Live TV (sometimes it then duplicates the TV Guide and all fail to load)
The issue never happens on iOS, Android and NVIDIA Shield
If Media Server logs would help, please let me know. I am not sure what logs may help as the issue seems to be very specific to just the Fire TV app
I have exactly the same problem. And same like you, the issue first started with Fire devices and now (2-3 days) it’s happenning on my shield as well. I don’t have this issue on my LG, Samsung and TCL (Google TV) devices. Highly annoying, can’t connect to server, works perfect after restart of the device.
I fixed my problem by changing the device DNS to a fixed 8.8.8.8 (or 1.1.1.1) which are much faster at resolving my plex IP than what my ISPs DNS is.
I also have a reverse proxy for my Plex (via Synology) and I added it into Plex server settings > Network > Custom server access URLs so plex can get my IP through my domain.
Eg. https://plex.mydomain.synology.me:443
I hope this helps future googlers! No problems since I changed those two things. I’m sure only changing the DNS would fix it but since I added both on the same day I don’t know for sure.
