Cannot connect to Plex app via app.plex.tv anymore

Server Version#: 1.23.4.4805
Player Version#: Web Version 4.57.4

I’ve been using Plex for a long time now except starting today, suddenly, I am no longer able to access my servers via app.plex.tv. I have changed nothing from how I have had my servers set up for the past two years and now all of a sudden I can no longer connect securely to either of my servers, either the local one or the remote one. I’ve tried to disable either server from requiring a secure connection, I’ve changed my DNS to Google’s public DNS of 8.8.8.8 with a backup of 8.8.4.4 and I am still not able to connect. The only way I am able to access any of my servers is by manually going to the http://127.0.0.1:32400/ local address or by right clicking my server taskbar icon and clicking Open Plex. In that case I can see both and connect to both, however app.plex.tv won’t work and my phone/TV both only seem to connect when the mood is right.

I have no idea what else to try and it’s getting a little tiring.

Same problem. It worked yesterday, is broken today.

I’ve bounced the jail on my FreeBSD hosting Plex. Tried it on different browsers on different computers on different OSes. Also tried enabling 3rd party cookies… no luck.

But the Android app and installed Windows app continue to work. So I know the server’s up… the browser client just cannot connect.

And same as you, if I hit the IP address directly on my local network then it can connect.

I think my issues on my TV and phone were unrelated and both seem to be working now, but as you said only directly connecting through the local network or using the localhost IP works as far as connecting via browser.

I am observing this, too. I can connect to LOCALIP:32400, EXTERNALIP:32400, and I can connect to my dynamic dns on port 32400 (which of course is just the same as EXTERNALIP:32400). When I do so, I can’t load the “server” settings entry. When connected this way, the “remote access” settings show that remote access is fully enabled and functional.

As above, I can’t connect through app.plex.tv, nor can I connect through the Apple TV client.

Nothing on my end changed - it was just broken this morning. I’ve tried restarting the server, the unraid host, etc. and nothing has been helpful.

The iPhone client appears to be functioning normally.

Everything I have remote is no longer connecting starting a little after 11 EDT, there is a spike on down detector for Plex issues right now

Same here. issues started this morning around 10:30amET

Looks like dns issues w/ the *.*.plex.direct domains. most of the upstream authoritative nameservers are either really slow to respond (e.g.

;; Query time: 3735 msec

or timeout fully. This is causing inconsistent failures (and due to negative cache, consistent failrues)

Yep that’s happening to me too. It works fine from the Windows app, but I use Chromecast Audio to stream to my hifi setup, so the app is not good enough.

Same issue for me… not able to log in remote but in local it work fine…

Just received the pop-up message on the forum: “Issues with plex.direct DNS resolution”

Also, https://status.plex.tv/ updated with same.

Had the same issue. downgraded to previous version and issue was resolved

How did you downgrade to the previous version on the TV App?

Running into the same issue, phone works great, however 4 different browsers from 3 different Pc’s no connection…
