On my fire TV Stick 4k the App only loads content when I stop (forced) and restart it again
Please fix this.
would you mind sharing some more bits & bytes about this issue?
e.g. on what model of FireTV does this happen and with what version of Plex for that platform, what version of PMS?
I am on newest Server and FireOS. Plex is also Up to Date.
It happens on every fire Stick I tested.
and what exactly happens (or doesn’t happen)?
plex just does not open anything and does not show content. it loads forever.
after closing (forced stop) it works beautifully again. clearly a bug.
could you reproduce this? after 1 day of not using plex it won’t load content unless you force close it (which is really inconvenient on fireOS) and then reopen it again. might not be a huge issue for those who power on their fire sticks every day, but the normal use case is to let those dongles powered on all the time.
Sorry, I cannot reproduce this…
do you have a fire stick 4K at hand?
or any fire stick since I bet it is the same behaviour for the little ones, too.
when they “sleep” and you start plex again, it is still in memory, but refuses to connect again, only a forced restart makes it connect to the server again. please fix this.
Out of interest do other apps carry on working on your fire stick when plex isn’t working?
Reason I ask, I picked up a firestick this week and I walked into a similar sounding problem which to me seemed plex related… but from then trying to play a video from Netflix or Amazon prime the videos wouldn’t load either until I rebooted the firestick.
The one thing though that does irk me so far, but I am not categorically sure is the cause yet, is the issue has only reared it’s head while I’ve been in the Plex app. eg. last night things seemed fine watching live tv in plex and then I attempted to change channel and got stuck on the loading screen. My server on the other hand looked as though it thought it was playing the stream just fine but the firestick was just on plex’s spinning loading screen.
My first impressions in a week are that my Roku Streaming Stick+ is a more reliable device (i’ve rebooted the firestick more times in a week than i’ve ever the roku in 6 months), but of course it suffers from it’s own problems too.
Other App I am using is youtube and it works fine. Only plex giving me the reboot problem.
I am having the exact same issue. If I attempt to play anything from any plex server or plex source the content tries to load and right before playback begins, the app crashes. No other apps on my fire tv stick.
Player version 8.10.0.21911 (921e3c2)
Same problem for me. Seems to happen to me once every day or two. I’ll start a video and it will immediately start buffering and playing in super slow mo. The entire app locks up (can’t go back or bring up the OSD) until it finally crashes and restarts. After a crash playback is usually good for the rest of the day. This is with the 4k Firestick and started happening a week or two ago
Just got a Fire TV 4k stick and I am seeing the same issue this morning. Libraries are not loading. Gonna trying forced shutdown.
it is so sad Plex just won’t take its community serious. I reported bugs years ago. none of them were fixed. I bought the plex pass although I do not need a single feature just to support the developers. but unfortunately they do not listen to us at all.
there is a bug in the plex app (exoplayer) that forced me to buy 4K sticks. it was introduced in 6.13 and was never fixed. stuttering as hell.
I’m also having this issue. To give more information @tom80H, my server is a laptop, so my Plex server goes offline when I put the laptop to sleep. Sometimes at this point, the Plex Fire TV app gets into a bad state where it thinks the server is unavailable, even after I wake the laptop up. The app prompts me to refresh the server connection or something like that, but even this doesn’t work. The only way to fix the issue is to force shut down the app from the Fire TV settings and then open it again.
I am having the same issue as @seanblue10 but on a chromecast with google tv. My old chromecast was fine as every time I wanted to stream it refreshed the connection to the server, but because the googletv stays always online with the app running in the background, whenever I shut my pc down and go to start the Plex app the next day my server is unavailable and the only way to get it back is to force close the app (on the chromecast) and open it again. Is there a way to refresh the apps connection without a force close? I am not a developer so it may seem like a stupid question, but could you jusst add a refresh button into the app to force a recheck for the server? or am I missing one that’s already there?
I’m having the same issue.
A little more info from my side. I returned my firestick (as it was brand new) for a replacement as Amazon offered it and I always had a niggle that it might be a memory problem when it struggles to play anything. Restarting the device will obviously clear that up. So a new firestick came and after a day the same problem came back. It only happens when I have been in Plex (so i am very convinced it is Plex that is the route cause). It mainly happens for me when I am watching Live TV which makes sense as I am more likely to switch channels and therefore videos are starting and stopping regularly. However, I have had it happen when just playing a video from my library.
As I mentioned previously once this issue has happened if I try switching to another app (before a reboot) I will see a similar experience in that it gets as far a video loading screen and then never plays the content. So last time it happened I switched straight to Amazon Prime Video and tried to play a video, it started loading with the spinning circle for about 30 secs and then popped this error code “DRM_FRAMEWORK_BUSY”.
Would such a thing affect other apps such as Plex even though it is my own media?
I’m having a similar issue with my brand new Firestick 4K with both stuttering after some period of time, and eventually no content loading at all. Sometimes these are followed by crashes when trying to back out of the stuttering content. Looking at the logs there’s no useful info, it just says it’s playing and then it’s the hello welcome to Plex message after it restarts from the crash.
In my case, I don’t have Live TV or DVR, so this is normal content from my local server, all of which is x264 or H.264. So far as I can tell it happens with a variety of audio codecs including EAC3 and several flavors of AAC. Often the file will play for 2+ hours straight and then start to stutter, so I don’t believe it to be codec related or it would start right away.
I’ve found that just doing a Force Stop on Plex and then reopening it will fix it:
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Installed Applications -> Plex -> Force Stop
