Hello.
Love and have used Plex for several years on several different Fire TVs (AFTV)… very, very nice system!
Using AFTV Fire Stick (4K) with Plex app v8.28.0.30077.
PMS: Version 1.25.2.5319
I used to be able to go to Plex home page on the AFTV and select ellipsis (top/right corner area) so I could ‘Reset Customizations’.
Unfortunately, I don’t see the ellipsis any more and don’t have a means to reset customizations… which I need to periodically do in order for my local Plex Media Server content to show up.
Networking seems fine. Can access PMS just fine from PC browser.
Any new/alternate ways to ‘Reset Customizations’? I just want to have my local PMS content show back up.
Many thanks!
Highlight Home in the Plex app.
Click the left side of the ring. You should see an ellipsis to the left of Home.
Select the ellipsis. You should see Reset Customizations.
Hi FordGuy - thanks for your reply!
Great suggestion… was looking forward to trying it!.. but, I tried and no luck… I see ellipsis by all of the other ‘default’ items but none by Home and of course none of my libraries show up. No ellipsis anywhere I poke around by Home.
Networking is good because interestingly, search returns results of my items (songs, movies, etc) from PMS and they will play that way.
However, I just don’t see the libraries listed in the left navbar anymore like I used to (eg just last week) and no ellipsis to be found… which is how I used to get them to show up (eg after resetting customizations).
I even specified the AFTV ip in PMS network/server list for ‘run without auth’.
I see my PMS listed after I click more (bottom of default library options) but they have orange triangles… those usually go away after I ‘reset customizations’.
Any more suggestions I can try?
Is this something I can update in config file somewhere to override AFTV, etc? (I’m ok doing that type of thing too…)
Thanks so much!
Not sure why it is not appearing on your FireStick. Another way to reset things is to go into the FireTV settings, force stop the Plex app, then clear the data. You will have to login again when you launch the app.
On my FireStick 4K. Plex app v8.28.0.30077.
Orange triangles are usually a permission or access issue. Resetting customizations won’t have an effect on that.
Is the Plex account used on the FireStick the same one that owns the server (i.e. not a shared account/friend/etc)?
Are the FireStick and server on the same network (not remote, no VLANs, etc)?
In Settings → Network, are there any entries in LAN Networks?
On the Plex server, check Settings → Network → Secure Communications. If Required, change it to Preferred and save changes.
In the Plex app on the FireStick, go to Settings → Advanced, and set Allow insecure connections = Always.
Restart the FireStick (or force quit & relaunch the Plex app).
That will align the secure communications settings between the FireStick and Plex server. You can adjust things once the FireStick can reliably access the server. Any other Plex clients can still use secure communications.
Thanks for getting back with a bunch of helpful things to check!
Agree its odd I don’t get ellipsis on Home button pretty much the same setup as what it seems you have. (I am using Linux PMS BTW though if that changes things.)
Another difference maybe is that I’m using Plex app as guest (so as far as that goes, I’m not logged in nor have claimed the PMS server.
Using everything as guest has been great so far without issues though until this update.
FireStick is on same network as PMS… no vlan, vpn, etc that could impact.
In Settings/network, I don’t see ‘LAN Networks’… the closest thing I have is “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”… where I list my IP/24 specifically, and .0/24 permitting all. I have /24 and 255.255.255.0 versions of the cidr.
I don’t see a Network/Secure Communications but a close checkbox “Strict TLS configuration” that is unchecked (use legacy/weaker cyphers…).
I did have plex app ‘Allow Insecure Conn’ = Always already set.
I’ve restarted and cleared cache in several ways/combos.
Lots of great ideas and things to check but aside from the fields that seems like I don’t have (maybe due to being Linux PMS?), just not seeing ellipsis on the home screen.
I’m just looking for a way to get my PMS libraries to show up.
Is logging in required to use or is it still valid to use Plex app as guest?
Thanks for your continued help… I’d really like to continue using Plex. Any additional suggestions (even config file changes) are welcome!
That is why you cannot see the ellipsis or reset customizations.
You won’t see it since your server is unclaimed. A server has to be claimed before secure communications can be enabled.
It would be at the top. See Plex Documentation → Server Settings → Network.

OS won’t matter.
I ran some tests with PMS 1.25.3.5385 on a Nvidia Shield Pro and Plex for Android TV 8.28.0.30077 on a FireStick 4K Max.
With the server unclaimed, I could not access the server from the FireStick when running as a Guest. The Plex app on the FireStick could see the Plex Server, but it could not see the list of libraries or access any of them. One of the libraries was previously pinned to the home page. If I tried to access that library, I received an error message that the server was unclaimed and access was not permitted.
With the server claimed, I could access the server from the FireStick when running as a Guest on the FireStick. I could pin libraries to the home page. I could not access the ellipsis to reset customizations.
Here are the settings I used:
- Settings → Server_Name → General. Claim the server.
- In the Plex server Network settings, add the local network to
List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth(ex: 192.168.1.0/24). Also setSecure connectionsto Preferred or Disabled (i.e. not Required). - In the Plex app settings on the FireStick,
Allow Insecure Communications= Always - Restart the FireStick.
That is what worked on my system. I cannot say if something has recently changed, as I’ve never configured things that way before.
Thanks! Busy past few days for me but was able to test what you suggested.
You are indeed correct, claiming server got rid of the ‘!’ and was able to expand/select/pin my PMS libraries to home
.
So… I can aggregate my libraries on the home page now so that’s good!
I still would like to be able to select the ellipsis on the home page (by the clock… or I guess left of home now) like I used to be able to do though.
I used to be able to force stop, clear cache, data on the AFTV, go to the home screen, select the ellipsis, select Reset Customizations, and be presented with my PMS servers to pick from. (All of this even with PMS server not claimed… used it that way for years.)
I see a few fixes have been rolling out the past few days so maybe one of them will give me that same option back :).
Again, thanks @FordGuy61 … I’m able to at least cobble my libraries back on the home screen now to use my media so that’s good! A lot further along than where I was
.
Any other additional thoughts/comments are appreciated (to get my ellipsis back!!
).
Don’t run in Guest mode. Login to the Plex app using a Plex ID.
That’s the only way I know to see the ellipsis next to Home to reset customizations.
