I can confirm that this fixes it for me. I installed the APK on my Fire TV 4K Max last night and was pleasantly surprised to see the “Advertise as Player” option had returned. I still had to toggle it on manually and restart everything before Plex actually showed up as a player, but it’s now working as it should.
In my case even after upgrade to the Beta release 9.26.0.2526, I’m still unable to view any of my players.
Although the “Advertise as player” is being added in the settings but still it doesn’t change anything even after reboots of everything.
Also wanted to mention that from my Plexamp on Android phone I can now see the FireTV listed but when I click on it, there’s an error saying “Cannot connect to remote player”.
Hey guys,
I finally managed to make it work but honestly I can’t explain its root cause.
In my setup, the Plex Media Server is on wired network while my Fire TV was on Wifi.
The moment I connected the Fire TV to wired network it was immediately discovered as Player on Plex App (Android Phone) and I could control it remotely.
I know it’s weird because both devices are connected to the same network (wired or wireless) but apparently in my setup that was causing the issue.
Hoping this finding could help other folks out there.
I can confirm it is fixed in the official 9.27 (July 23, 23) release. Enable “Advertise as Player” under settings and restart the app. Thanks for the fix.
