Fire tv stick 4k says "no items to display this directory appears to be empty" for live tv & DVR

These are the latest app versions available at the time of this writing.

I’ve just set up an hdhomerun prime. The DVR setup went fine and I can use “Live TV & DVR” from the web client or from the iPhone app. When I try to use “Live TV & DVR” from the fire tv stick 4k I get the message “No items to display This directory appears to be empty”. However, the fire tv stick 4k can watch “Live TV”.

The DVR has recorded some new content and added it to my TV Shows library which previously had a handful of items in it. The new DVR content shows up in the web client and on the iPhone but does not show up on the fire tv stick 4k. However, the fire tv stick 4k is able to see the older content.

I have tried:

  • force stopping the fire tv stick 4k app
  • force stopping the fire tv stick 4k app, then clearing the cache and data
  • force stopping the fire tv stick 4k app, clearing the cache and data, uninstalling the app, then reinstalling it

The only option change within the plex app that has made a difference is to change “Remember Selected Tab” to off. This results in the error message for “Live TV & DVR” changing to “An error has occurred, please try again later”.

Please help, I would like to use “Live TV & DVR” from my fire tv stick 4k.

I eventually resolved this issue. There were two instances of plex running on my local network, one leftover from migrating to the other. For whatever reason, the fire tv plex app was showing me the contents of the old server instance under the new instance’s name. I stopped the old instance and now plex dvr works properly.
