With Amazon announcing that fire TV sticks are moving to their Linux-based OS, is the issues that have been had with the Fire TV Select device been addressed? Will Plex (in future) be focusing attention on that device?
No change. I wish Plex would provide more details on this:
Direct playback of personal media content is limited to H.264 with AAC audio and a bitrate of 7Mbps. Playing other types of content will require transcoding. We’re actively working with Amazon to support additional codecs.
I can work around the H.264 and 7Mbps, but is the direct audio playback really limited to AAC without transcoding? I have a lot of AC3 and MP3 stuff and other audio encoded stuff that are H.264 and do not exceed 7Mbps but are AAC audio. Also, is it just codec limited on the video or size as well such as 1080p vs 720p? Some things I have tried to watch will show as direct play but stutter a lot and were 1080p H.264 AAC and I re-encoded to 720p H.264 AAC and then played nice, but other 1080p things have not had issues.
A full breakdown of what is known to work and some sort of monthly/quarterly status update would be great, but sadly, even as a PlexPass owner, we are left in the dark.
