Firefox won't play back, but other browsers will

Server Version#: plexmediaserver 1.22.1.4228-724c56e62
Player Version#: Plex Web 4.53.0

I am able to get Plex to work 100% in Chrome, IE, and Edge, but when using Firefox, the play button seems to do absolutely nothing. Tested this on multiple computers.

UPDATE: According to the Firefox developer console, the web app is trying to point to localhost, but I’m not access Plex from the same computer that it’s hosted on. (See below)

@NozeDive

I’ve forwarded this to the Plex/web team and asked they help me understand what is being seen.

I’ll respond back when they do.

Thank you!

Got some info.

FireFox is very strict and the change in how things get called make it cranky.

Not sure if this is 100% legitimate / sanctioned plug-in but you need to allow CORS in FireFox.

Thanks!

I tried it out and it didn’t seem to have an effect.

However, I forgot to mention the other error that shows up in the console every time I press play:

XML Parsing Error: no root element found
Location: https://analytics.plex.tv/collect/event
Line Number 1, Column 1:

@Can you collect more info on that please ?

That’s clearly a bug which needs to be reported and fixed – fast.

Does it give a reference anywhere in the console?

Are you loading the local web app from the local IP of your Plex server device?
Have you tried the hosted web app? https://app.plex.tv

Thanks for the reply!

I’m using the IP address of the plex server in my basement. I’m connecting on my desktop in my living room.

I’ve been hesitant to connect my Plex server to a Plex account for tin-foil-hat type reasons (big brother and all that) but if it’s the only solution then I don’t have a choice. I’m hoping to not have to go that route, however, because this issue doesn’t impact other browsers (Chrome for example) - I can load Chrome on that computer, navigate to my Plex server via IP:PORT, and movies will play just fine that way.

Please read what I wrote underneath the picture in this post: Library Visibility: Restrict where content from this library should appear - #17 by OttoKerner

Do also know that nothing and nobody at Plex does collect data about which particular file on your server (or servers shared with you) you are playing.
This is laid out here https://www.plex.tv/about/privacy-legal/
(but you need to read it carefully and not jump to conclusions when the text talks about the free ad-supported media, which are available from the Online media sources)

Thanks for clearing that up!

I will try connecting my Plex server to my Plex account, and then trying again.

Thanks for the suggestion! I synced it to my Plex account and used app.plex.tv and it is working for Firefox

Although OttoKerner provided a viable solution for my use case, I agree that this is a bug since “claiming” a server is optional, and some people may choose not to.

What other information form the console would be helpful?
