Firestick 4k

As of a few days ago all my Amazon Firestick devices are going into a high speed viewing mode when I pause and play or resume or use skip intro function. If I use any of my Samsung tv’s built in Plex player it is fine. Also the playback on Firestick devices look a bit weird and it pauses a lot with the spinning wheel and then resumes. The pausing may be different playback quality settings but the high speed is not. I was so happy before using the Firestick and now it is useless with Plex.

try to clear cache, it works normal for me on ftv 4k stick., plex 8.25.1

I just started having issues with all my Fire TV devices, 4k stick, 4k cube, and Fire TV box. I get “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.” The server is local, and the fire devices are all wired via Ethernet so there is no connection issues and I’m also not having this issue when I try to stream from chrome or the app on my Android phone. I have tried to restart the app, restart the fire device, and reinstall the app, nothing has worked. I hope the app updates and fixes soon.

Hi,
I have looked and for the clear cache and cannot find. Can you please tell me where to do this function that you talk about?

Thank you!!!

I am having the same issue with my amazon fire 4k stick, clearing the cache does not solve the issue, though it only happens when it is the following:

  1. I am converting the video automatically to whatever playback is needed (aka plex is transcoding)
  2. the video is encoded x265

The video will play normally if it goes from the start and if I pause it, but if I FF/RW/change subtitles/make it resume in the middle of the video, the whole thing will be at about 4x speed, and the only way to fix it is to tell plex to play the original source, which works alright as a work around inside my home network, but completely unusable when streaming with my tiny upload pipe.

Any idea when the plex transcoder might be fixed?

I have users reporting this same problem on a firestick. We have tried clearing the firestick cache , then restarting the firestick, but the problem persists. It’s odd because not ALL shows or movies have this problem, but the majority do. There doesn’t seem to be any obvious reason why certain episodes don’t encounter this, as when I compare the source files, they have identical values. They said this started happening around two weeks ago (give or take a few days).

Video Quality: Adjust Automatically was turned ON. Once it was turned OFF, video playback resumed normally. However, playback was transcoded to standard definition. We re-enabled the Adjust Automatically setting and playback was still normal. What we discovered, was that the fast-forwarding issue only appeared to happen when the user clicked the “Skip Intro” button. Restarting the episode from the beginning and NOT using the “Skip Intro” button allowed normal playback (without buffering or automatic fast forwarding) for the duration of the episode. So - it seems like the issue (at least in this case) was with using the “Skip Intro” option, at least while playing on the FireStick.

Another oddity I noticed while troubleshooting: every so often, the server reports the episode has restarted, even though it actually has not. It will reset the playback time to zero, even though the user’s actual playback time might be at 5 minutes.

In addition, the “Skip Intro” button continues to appear on the screen in random flashes, even after 7 minutes of playback. I imagine this is related to the server showing the episode restarting, but may be a different bug, entirely.

That is something else I’ve noticed when playing my x265 encoded files, every second, the progress indicator is skipping between the start of the file, and where the playback currently is, which I believe is the reason for the skip intro constantly fading in and out, and is usually a good way to know when not to fast forward/reward, otherwise the bug will start X_X

i still cannot confim this and i never had this happening. im using my firetv stick 4k (since 2 weeks the max) almost everyday.
i have always installed latest versions from here (fireos versions) Plex for Android - #405 by romancamelia and a plex beta channel win10 server

i press skip intro often and have 80% h265 content.
auto adjust OFF and quality local/remote on max, and play small files in orginal ON.

post/edit in ur android versions shown at the bottom of the plex settings page.

but it may be relaed to the autoplay freezing bug cause i think the player/ffmpeg could not detect the end of some x265 files while playing. the latest beta got some fixes for it.

its not transcoding for me, but check ur transcode server settings if it does for u:
transcode quali auto, puffer 300, background transcode slow, hdr on, hardware on on

Hmm, I had a little time and started to dig a little more into the files on my system that are causing this issue, and it looks like I was incorrect in suspecting x265.

Instead, it turns out to actually be the audio codec. I have one season of a show that I ripped with MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a) without issue, but another season, where I ripped the audio with codec Vorbis Audio (vorb) and that seems to be the only difference I have done with the two files.

Would the difference in audio codex possibly be causing this FF RW issue on files when transcoding video, since again when playing at original quality, there are no issues.

Lots of similar threads in this one:

We could fix this with “Automatic adjustment=Off” and setting a fixed Bitrate (e.g. 2 Mbit/s or 4 Mbit/s).

Had no idea I was going into the know issue thing they are hopefully still trying to fix.

Thank you for the work around though, turned off the auto adjustment and telling it to run at a particular rate fixes things for now. Not the best for when I’m on the go since I have a lousy up rate but this work around will certainly work locally.
