Server Version#: 1.21.3.4046
Player Version#: 8.13.1.23036
some files cannot be played within the plex app on my firetv stick. the error occurs when the file ist started and states “an error occured while attempting to play this video. please check your connection and try again.”.
it happens only with some files, most work.
any support is appreciated, please see the weblog attached
a friendly user provided a guide on how to revert to a working version. 8.11 plays all videos - which means this is a bug in the versions 8.12 and 8.13.
just to confirm: the new 8.15 version also does not work. most movie files cannot be played. i’ll, yet again, revert back to 8.11 as this is the only fire tv vversion that actually let’s me watch movies …
I watch the same shows on shuffle every night, worked fine for years but after the latest FireTV update on two devices, it will play a few seconds before the app crashes. After a few tries it tends to work. Is this a related issue?
It doesn’t crash for me. I wrote this post for the FireTV and the movies that will not load resulting in the following error “an error occurred while attempting to play this video. please check your connection and try again."
I’m glad it’s not just me. Updated Plex on Fire tv today having not used it for a while and no matter what I do in settings nothing plays. Same connection error message, which given that a) all other apps on the firestick can stream b) my plex server is up to date and can stream to my phone’s plex client c) the app pulls through the libraries, would indicate that it’s not a connection error but rather the latest version of Plex on Fire TV is knackered. I also have it installed on android tv which has recently updated but haven’t tested it yet.
I personally, will never use an unknown source such as a file hosting site and there is no need to do this with plex as all the old versions are hosted by plexHERE.
Side load however you wish. However, I always recommend staying as close to the source as possible when downloading/installing software (even on android). Use the play-store for best practice and avoiding security vulnerabilities. If you are going to roll back, go as close to the source as possible.
From what I understand you need a Plex Pass to download those APK’S here which the original poster and many others here don’t have
.
I wouldn’t suggest that anyone should avoid a direct source for their downloads, I’m simply offering an easy alternative
Uptodown installs and uninstalls each app and scans it with over 40 anti-malware programs before it’s distributed
You can also scan it yourself with many tools available for free on both your computer and android device before it’s installed
You don’t get any files from an unknown source or from a file sharing site?
Without being obvious, let’s just say… I think maybe you’re not the average Plex user
The reason the Plex Pass note is there is because they are not attached to an app store and therefore cannot check for purchases if you are using the mobile app. The Android TV app that runs on Fire TV, Shield, etc and such is free and anyone can use those APKs for it.
