Firestick with Plex 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS issue

I have two firesticks, one connecting to my tv upstairs and one in the basement that connects to my pioneer surround sound. The one upstairs when I play movies that are 5.1 DTS or Dolby Digital it plays fine, if I play the same movies in the basement the audio will stutter and the video is choppy. The only way for the movie to play fine is to turn off Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus in the setting of Plex. If I do that then I wont get the 5.1 surround sound audio. Has anybody had the same issue when connecting their firestick to a surround sound?

exactly what are your firesticks plugged into ?

Suggestion 1: Swap them. See if problem moves with the stick. Try to isolate problem to a specific stick, the attached TV/receiver/etc, network quality.

Suggestion 2: Verify capabilities & configuration of receiver in basement. Can it play back Dolby Digital and/or Dolby Digital Plus? Configure AFTV stick accordingly.

Also, how are things connected in the basement? Is the stick plugged into the TV, into the receiver? How is TV connected to receiver - hdmi, toslink, etc?

Suggestion 3: Verify PMS & Plex client versions.

Amazon Fire TV devices do not support DTS, so the audio must be transcoded (see device specs).

I had the same DTS audio problem w/ my Fire TV Gen 2. Things work fine now with PMS 1.7.x. Plex client is v5.10.1.

I should of been more clear, the basement firestick is connected to my
pioneer vsx 1021 via HDMI and the receiver is connected to the tv HDMI. I
know the stick doesn’t support dts but the Plex server should transcode the
audio for me. If the option Dolby digital or plus is selected in the Plex
app in the firestick I get issues playing files that has DTS as the audio.
I uncheck Dolby in the Plex app on the stick the movie plays fine however I
don’t get the true surround sound as only my center speaker is playing
audio.

Upstairs the stick is directly connected to the tv via HDMI and no issue,
so I figured something to do with my reciever that it doesn’t like. I’ll
swap the stick out and see if the problem stays.

Check the stick audio settings as well. Forgot about that when typing earlier note.

My FireTV is set for Dolby Digital Plus Automatic and it passes DD & DD+ to my Denon receiver w/o issue.

There is also “Dolby Digital Plus over HDMI,” “Dolby Digital over HDMI,” and “Dolby Digital Plus Off” to force things (DD+ Off forces stereo).

That was it, changing the stick audio to use Dolby digital over HDMI did
it. Thank you so much
