Finding previous threads is near impossible so starting fresh.
So I was having trouble with external srt subs showing with mp4s and it was suggested to convert my entire library to mkv with internal subs. Quite a project and it stil has issues. Like the vobsub / pgs option but it still loses subs if pause/start too much. Only cure is to kill app and restart app!
Another issue is ff/rew too much kills plex!
Also have a question about non plex pass usage.
One non mobile at a time or can I run it on both firetvs at same time?
Quite confusing to have a pause that does absolutely nothing except break subs.
So yes pause too long, must kill the app to restore subs!
Better yet stop / return to info screen…no matter how long you wait subs comeback!
Not sure the purpose of pause!
The other odd thing is this HOME screen nonsense! Guess it was changed in 2015 to on demand, but server has not changed! Only option is to undo changes? That haven’t been allowed since '15?
Guess I can del photos music playlists since they have moved to top on the app for some reason! Moving recent movies to the bottom!
And plex-pluto seems to be getting more and more in your face…maybe find a way to disable that!
Just read the plex pass/free and it appears we can use it on all full size non mobile screens!
Hi,
All my films are .mp4 and I use external .srt files and have never had any problems.
There are 2 ways you can make this work I think, both of which work for me:-
- Automatic subtitle selection using the “forced” method. Filenaming is crucial. eg
Filmname.mp4
Filmname.en.forced.srt
The filename before the .mp4 must match exactly what comes before the .en.forced.srt (you can of course change the .en to whichever language you want)
With this method the subtitles will display even if the subtitles setting is “Off” on the movie in Plex.
- Manual subtitle selection. Go to Plex and manually associate the .srt file with the film. File naming isn’t important with this option.
Hope that helps.
