When trying to load subtitles I get the error “Unable to load subtitles” I tried it on the web, TV app, mobile I get the error everywhere. Also tried different Movies / TV Shows but seems to be everywhere. (File removed)
Subs need to match file name, adding a language before the extension.
So “My Movie (2020).mp4” would have subs “My Movie (2020).srt” but would show up as unknown. so add the language to the filename… like “My Movie (2020).eng.srt”
I ran into an issue recently and eventually figured out that my subs had non-standard attributes in the file that was causing it not to render, it work for some players but not others… then eventually didn’t work on all players. Once I deleted the offending lines in the subtitle file, it worked.
Ah thanks, to be clear local subtitles work perfectly but when trying to search them online I got the error. In the meantime it’s working again, maybe opensubtitles API or something else was down?
I’ve had this same issue for a few months now. After going through several proposed solutions and trying them all, I’ve finally cleared up the issue. Below are the steps I’ve followed to correct the problem under Plex Media Server for Windows.
Selected “Always” under Plex Web > Player > Burn Subtitles.
Removed non-ascii characters from all media flles and folders.
Enabled “Allow Media Deletion” under Settings > Library.
Selected “Optimize Database” under Manage > Troubleshooting.
Disabled “Allow Media Deletion” under Settings > Library.
