I used (and will continue to use/despite the terrible update to the plex firetv app) the VLC Player app. PERFECT LIVE TV PLAYBACK !!!

Edit: nevermind, a few hours after installing vlc on fire tv the channel list appeared and I can watch through vlc now. The combing is more of a blur in vlc. I’ll have to watch for a while to see if it’s more tolerable.
De-interlacing is tricky… the best implementation of this is used by Kodi/SPMC(an android fork of Kodi)
They have ability of software rendering for interlacing.
The FireTV Gen 2 is capable of software de-interlacing only but needs to be instructed through the software to do so(which plex does not do unless it is being transcoded on the fly), which makes it less than ideal.
De-interlacing is very hardware/software intensive so right now my shield is the only android player that works flawlessly using its hardware instead of software. And it’s perfect by the way… expensive… yes!.. the hands down best… yes!
