Plex player on FireTV won’t play Dolby Digital AC3 5.1 to Home Theater Receiver (Sony). For all other apps on the FireTV such as Prime Video, Disney, Paramount, etc. When a movie is playing the receiver automatically switches to AC3 5.1 and plays it correctly. On the Plex app on the FireTV, the info screen for the movie will show 5.1 both on the main movie screen and in the info screen. However, when the movie is played, the receiver shows only Left and Right channels and the sound only comes from the two main speakers and none comes from the center channel, subwoofer, or surround speakers. I have carefully ripped my bluerays with DD AC3 5.1 sound. If I use other players to play the movies they play in 5.1. It is just the Plex app on the FireTV that doesn’t output the 5.1 sound for the receiver. As noted, other apps do so I am sure it is not a cabling problem. FireTV is connected directly to the receiver via HDMI. Then the Receiver is connected to the TV. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
In Plex app settings, verify Passthrough = HDMI.
Yes, that is verified to be set as Passthrough - HDMI. Still the problem. Any other ideas?
Not sure. I tested with my 4K Max. Same client version. FireStick audio = Best Available. Plex Android TV app audio passthrough = HDMI.
4K Max <–HDMI–> Denon AVR-X4300H <–HDMI–> LG B7 OLED
I tested with Blu-ray rips - H.264 1080p video.
AC3 always direct plays / direct streams, and is passed to the Denon as AC3 5.1.
TrueHD is broken. Same movie, but with TrueHD audio has continuous buffering.
DTS-HD MA, PCM 2.0, & PCM 1.0 all direct play.
One thing I did notice when testing AC3, with frame rate matching enabled, the video transcodes. With frame rate matching disabled, the video direct plays. However, AC3 direct plays/direct streams either way.
