I can get 5.1 Audio from other apps on my Fire TV- but not through Plex.
Fire TV settings are set to Dolby Digital Over HDMI as I was gifted an older AVR Receiver which only has a SPDIF input, so I assume this means I can only receive Dolby Digital and not DD+ signals.
I am also using a HDMI audio splitter to strip the sound from the HDMI out of the FIre TV and convert to SPDIF. The HDMI then goes to my TV and the SPDIF to the receiver. I realize this is janky, but it works fine for my BluRay source and for Fire TV apps.
I have Plex app set to Passthrough HDMI on the Fire TV app. I don’t see any additional audio settings.
On the Plex Web server on my computer (Windows 10) I do not see the options for audio device/audio channel/ etc. like are listed here:
All I have are Normalize Multi-channel Audio and some subtitle stuff. I do see a chromecast force multichannel support and have toggled it to no avail. Not sure any of this matters.
I can get the audio signal to my receiver, but only in Pro Logic or other analog formats- never in Dolby Digital. I have tried several files on Plex with different audio sources- 5.1 EAC3, 5.1 AC3, 5.1 DTS and they always show Direct Play in the Audio Playback info. But when I switch the receiver to Dolby Digital, it is silent.
I am not sure where to go from here or if this is just a limitation of Fire TV and Plex or what. I do get Dolby Digital signal from Prime Video and other apps on the Fire TV so I know it can work with my receiver setup.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
