Another full day of fiddling with FireTV Plex App.
I found that the Amazon AppStore release Plex App, with “Advertise as player” enabled, Plex Skills installed on the Amazon account, and a Friendly Name set actually seems like it wants to work when these Voice commands are spoken to the FireTV remote.
"Open Keiths Plex’
“Ask Plex to play the movie on Master Bedroom”
Alexa prints on the screen all the right words. She asks me if I want to resume playing. When I say Yes, she prints Enjoy on the screen. And I hear a number of thunking beeps. (The number varies by which voice command is being processed.
But nothing actually happens. I can’t actually hit a play button. The movie doesn’t start playing. The back button takes me back through the screens of text output generated by my voice commands. Ultimately I end up back on the Plex app screen, with my libraries displayed on the right edge.
This looks like a debug mode for a developer that needed to verify voice command parsing.
I can’t find a setting to turn this off. (Epiphany. I didn’tturn on Developer mode. I should do that and see if there is a setting there…)
So I tried the latest Beta, I get the same result. Text printed on the screen that describes what I would expect Alexa to do, but nothing actually happens.
If a Plex developer would like to work with me, I am quite happy to communicate run tests, forward “log” files, etc. Or you can remote in and see for yourself what I am seeing.
I really want to see this work. I want Plex to succeed. Take me up on my offer…
Cheers
