First Audio Track is Silent on any media LG WebOS TV

Server Version#:1.20.2.3402 (running on a WD PR4100 NAS)
Player Version#:5.2.1 (Running on a LG 75UN85)
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-10-10_18-32-43.zip (6.9 MB)

Bought a new LG Smart TV. Added Plex and my account. Play as normal. Problem is that the first audio track is either silent completely, or it uses the second audio track. Changing to the second track will will either play the first audio track, or nothing at all.

Happens on multiple movies. Confirmed the files work fine on my desktop player app, iOS player app, and another LG Smart I have in the home.

Have rebooted the server, and attempted to reinstall the app on the TV from the LG TV App Store with no success or change. TV is fully firmware updated.

Had a similar problem. Seems that audio passthrough for i.e. DTS is enabled by default. If you do not have an external amp go to settings, audio and uncheck DTS. Worked for me.

Tried to disable the DTS. Issue persists.

When playing a title on TV that’s troublesome , go to server and take a screenshot of the dashboard
like below.

Tested this across 3 files that are known to work fine. Problem happens with all of them.
I have also since updated the server to 1.20.3.3437 and the problem still happens.


English audio track plays fine. Japanese track selected. Second Track.

Ok,

duplicate a title that troublesome outside of Plex.

Download MKVToolNix

Strip out the track you don’t want. Remux.

Try that new file after adding it back to Plex

Okay, I did this. Picked a known working file and remuxed it to remove the japanese audio track and left only english.

Now there is no audio at all when I play it with the TV that’s giving me issues. Confirmed that the file is good and plays properly on another LG Smart TV, my Windows 10 Desktop Player and Web Player.

So it seems that no matter what the first audio track is not playing properly.

I have a LG and normally MKvToolNix fixes it. There something else at play here.

Try this in server settings. Disable video stream transcoding

Just tried it and no luck. Same issue. What’s especially frustrating is that I have two LG Smart TVs in the home and this issue only impacts one of them.

From here all I can suggest is to reset TV apps or delete and re install with a power cycle from the power source in between.

To reset Plex app, app settings /advanced/ Reset

That was the very first thing I tried :sweat_smile:

Tried again. No fix. Thanks for trying though.

Is there any way of getting this in front of developers, or is it too minor for them to notice?
