- Playback with subtitles is choppy (similar to what I experience on my appletv with plexconnect) <= I guess this has to do with transcoding!
More people need to complain about this, it doesn’t look like native subtitle support has any priority for the developers. Requiring transcoding of the video just to add subtitles is horrible.
I know this is a 1.0 release and will improve over time, I’m only mentioning it because it’s the exact same situation on the iOS and WP client for a really long time now. That’s my only _real_ complaint about plex - but unfortunately for me that’s a deal breaker…
i like the app very much, the only strange thing i experience is that when i play a tv show without subtitles it plays absolutely fine but when i select any subtitle
(english or dutch doesnt matter wich one)
the video stops every 10sec. for a second or 2??
does anyone know what could be the problem here??
the preview app of the xbox one doesnt support subtitles either so maybe it's related??
PMS has to burn in the subtitles into the video as srt subtitles is not supported on the target device (the XB1). Your PMS machine has to transcode. So if your PMS machine is old or underpowered, this buffering every 10 seconds will happen.
What error do you get? Also, what happens if you log in via Username and Password?

I get that server version error. A few restarts later and it resolved itself. Now, I think this is just some error state that is lingering around even after the server has been updated. I did this:
- Start the app, get the server version error.
- Updated the server while the error was still up on the screen.
- Tried retry and that other button to no avail, still same error.
Restarted the app a couple more times and it resolved itself.

+1, same problem on the Chromecast. Would be great to have a more efficient solution, if possible.

+1 ... This is really annoying and I'm having the same issue for my Plexconnect setup... Cannot watch anything with a subtitle! This should get some priority! Its not efficient to reencode a video just to watch it with subtitle

The Xbox One doesn't support srt subs, so this isn't really up to Plex. They've provided a stop-gap solution that works for a lot of people. Unfortunately some people don't have servers capable of doin the reencode on the fly, I was in the same boat until recently. There is however a solution, you need to burn the subtitle into the video file. Instructions exist on this forum to do that. It's not ideal, but right now that's how you can fix the issue you're having.

Oke thanks, I voted up the subtitle issue with the xbox feedback program... maybe more folks here can vote up this issue over at MSFT

My understanding (and this is from the previews forum) is that they have to wait for the mkv support to support srt subtitles. Once that is available to everyone, after the October update, they can push that to this app. Part of the MKV spec is srt subtitles contained in the container. So i wouldn't make a deal out of this until that mkv support comes through. If that doesn't solve the issue than it is time to make a deal :)
+1 on the Kinect commands. Was barking all kinds at the screen before and all I got was silly looks, mis-quoted commands and a feeling that I was talking to my 2 year old daughter again (she mostly ignores me too!)
Would also be nice to see what's watched/unwatched in the primary screens like 'newly added' - we go through a lot of TV/films and I'm shocking at remembering. I know you can get this by delving further into the selection but would be nice to see at a glance.
I seem to get quite a few disconnects too. Not sure if this is the XB1/Plex/my wireless AC bridge but if I just click retry I'm straight back on. Would be nice if the app would automatically try to reconnect a couple of times before it erred?
One final request... I like the clock being on my Samsung client along with the time what we're watching will finish. I know it's easy enough to work that out but it was a really neat little touch I thought.
Overall though I'm very happy - well worth the wait, thanks guys! :)
You'd think... unless they just don't like the English accent but every time I said "launch 1" or "play 1" or "go to 1" or any combo (including "xbox" and/or "plex")... nothing. We just want to know the full syntax required and all the available commands though smart @ss :P
