Can we get a fix when using Chromecast with Apple IPad/IPhone.
Plex has to restart every time you shut off the device or open another app…
Peace.

Figured this was just a bug that would be worked out but nope, we actually have to request this to be fixed as a feature.
Pretty sad that the developers can’t be bothered to fix this issue. I sent in logs back in January.
Hello,
I have the same issue :
Plex Server Version : 1.28.0.5999
Plex Player Version : 8.7.2
Chromecast v2
iPhone SE 2020
iOS 15.6
Subscribing to Plex Plus : Yes
Media server : Synology DS720+
I will happily share information, logs, or try solutions if it can help investigate and resolve this issue.
Sincerely,
Clément
I gave my logs to BigWheel (Plex Employee) way back in January. He said he was forwarding them to the developers.
As you can see… the developers have done nothing to fix this issue.
This is so annoying!
1 - My Plex app disconnect from Chromecast after about 20 minutes (the progression disappears from the lockscreen)
2 - My Plex app disconnects from Chromecast after pausing playback for about one minute or more.
3 - After the disconnect, reopening Plex will cause the chromecast playback to stop.
I’m running iOS 15.6 with the latest versions available for both the iOS app and Plex Server.
Chromecasting video from other sources like Youtube, Netflix etc work flawlessly, and I’m usually 2-3 meters away from the router, and the Chromecast is connected to the network with cable, so I know it’s not a network/wifi issue.
I’ve tried to reach out to Plex for other issues in the past without success and I’m afraid this won’t reach them either. But I thought the more of us that share similar experiences, the higher the chances (hopefully).
Same issue. Every time I launch an album and cast to a google speaker or group, if I go to another app and come back to Plex, the app restarts and no loger controls what’s playing.
It would really be nice if the developers would actually fix this issue. 8 months after the first time I brought it to their attention, and still absolutely nothing
Yeah! I don’t know how to get their attention, and the ’auto close within 3 months of inactivity’ crap they have on this forum makes it even worse…
I just went down the rabbit hole searching for issues with Plex+Chromecast+Asus routers and have done everything in attempt to fix it. That includes disabling airtime fairness, disabling beamforming, lowering the modulation scheme, setting reserved dhcp-addresses/static addresses and so much more but the issue is still there.
This is only happening to Plex and not other apps as I said previously, so it is clearly a Plex issue.
@moderators - Please bring this to the devs attention
Good luck getting anyone from Plex to help with a fix. I turned this issue in almost a year ago, and gave my logs to a moderator… absolutely nothing has been done.
Is this issue exclusive to ASUS routers? I have one so I’m curious if that’s the common denominator.
This issue persists to this day and it’s incredibly frustrating. Just happened again when trying to resume the kids’ movie. Have to reconnect to Chromecast and start the stream all over.
Not exclusive to ASUS routers. I have a linksys router, and I have to restart every time I want to use my iPad for anything else. It’s a Chromecast and Plex issue. I gave my logs to a administrator back in February, and absolutely nothing was done about the known issue.
I don’t think it is, but a lot of people on other forums seems to blame some of the options available on the Asus routers, although they may be available on others as well.
I’ve tried to adjust all the suggested settings but it doesn’t help.
Not only does it disconnect when switching to other apps, but I’ve noticed that it also disconnects easily when pausing playback. Sometimes after just 5-10 seconds idle.
Plex needs to dig into this asap.
Another update and no fix… sad
This is still an issue!
I get very annoyed when I see updates where we get the opportunity to change the app logo to lots of other designs, when the chromecast playback is still not working correctly after all these years.
I managed to catch the following in the logs (see image) when I did he following:
Started playback locally where I casted a video to my TV (iphone connected to WiFi, and Chromecast Ultra connected via ethernet cable)
Let it play a few minutes
Paused the playback on my iPhone
Turned off the screen while still in the Plex app
Turned on the screen again and the playback was shown on the lock screen.
Unlocked the phone.
Jumped out of the iPhone app and opened another (Facebook Messenger)
Turned the screen off again.
Turned it back on and the playback was now missing (ie the Plex app was either force closed in the background or the playback was terminated for some other reason when Plex was no longer in focus)
Come on Plex.. You need to take a look at this right away! How else are we supposed to get your attention if the only way of contact is supposed to be through forums where you obviously don’t respond?
I have reinstalled Plex Server, upgraded from x86 to x64 architecture for the Plex Media Server app, connected all devices to LAN via ethernet cable (except phone of course). The server is running latest version of Windows 10 x64, no anti virus software except what is built in (Windows Defender), I’ve followed extensive tips/tricks to modify the router in case it is related to WiFi which it isn’t etc etc.
The most insulting issue is that they can’t even be bothered to look into the issue. Apparently the developers are interested in new menus ect… wouldn’t want to actually fix something that is broke
I also have this issue for MORE then 2 years!!
Disappointing that the developers could care less about issues with Chromecast.
I know. I try to ask this to Plex for multiple years but they do not take it serious. Only new features but not making the primary goal “sreaming video” stable. I really do not yet it.
It would be nice if more Chromecast people complained about the issue. Maybe the developers would take it seriously. Or maybe change to a different app
