Fix for Plex Players only playing the duration of the (incorrect) time code?

When I digitally saved my DVD library, it was in .mpg format
Approximately 2/3 of the library saved with correct duration/time code information, but the remaining third have the wrong length/duration.
For example, the 1971 film The French Connection is 1 hour 44 minutes. But the duration of the file only shows as something like 5 or 8 seconds.
The film plays the entire 1 hour 44 minutes in VLC Player.
The film plays the entire 1 hour 44 minutes with Play On.
But with Plex, the Desktop Player only plays the 5 or 8 seconds.
Is there fix to remedy this?

Try remuxing the files into mkv. This container has a much better time code.
When done correctly, the quality doesn’t change by doing this.
correctly: avoid Handbrake, use MKVtoolnixGUI instead.

thanks for the suggestion. i’ll give it a try. it took me 4 years to digitize my collection, and i’m probably looking at at least 1000 files (TV series and movies) to remux. :sob:

For now it’s just an experiment, to verify a hunch of mine.
