Fix Match for Tv Shows

Recently I’ve added two new TV Shows to my library that are new to 2019. One is a new version of an old show and the other is an entirely new show. Both of them are incorrectly matched from the TVDB. In the case of the New version of the old show it just shows up as a second copy of s01e01 of the original show from years back. In the case of the new show it is mis-matched to an old show (2011) with a similar title.

  1. why is there no “Fix Match” for TV Shows the way there is for movies to fix this problem when it happens? Also no “Unmatch” option?
  2. to try to fix the problem I renamed the folder where the TV Shows in question reside from “[Title]” to “[Title] (yyyy)”. Still Plex matches incorrectly.
  3. BOTH shows are in theTVDB.com

Fix match is there for tv shows as well… however you need to keep in mind it’s only available on a TV Show level (not for seasons or episodes). So before fixing it you’ll first need to split the show.

That being said… you’re actually on the right track to get it right by including the year the reboot first aired. For Plex to pick this change up, you’ll need to perform a Plex Dance:

  1. remove the wrongly associated files
  2. scan the library for updates
  3. empty trash for the library
  4. move the files back into the tv show folder and make sure the folders and episodes are properly named.
  5. scan the library for updates again

Thanks for the quick reply.

  1. That didn’t work for the new show (The Spy (2019))
  2. Why isn’t there just the option in the menu like there is for movies?

if two shows are combined you need to first SPLIT APART.

Then when when there are two of the same you can do a FIX MATCH on the one that needs it.

@trumpy81 Understood. I’m trying to import the 2019 “The Spy”

I got the new version of the old show to work correctly.

The new show with the similar title(The Spy) is still not working.

The folder is titled “The Spy (2019)”
Plex adds “Spy (2011)”

Ok… so again, how do you “Fix Match” for a TV Show? I don’t see that option at any level.

if there is no fix match option then it was not matched at all and there will be a match option. they will only be at the show level. not the season or episode levels.

My menu does not have those options. I don’t have “Spy”(2011) or “'Spy”(2004) in my library. Only “The Spy (2019)”

Perhaps I should clarify, my original post was referencing two different shows. One was a New Version of an old show (That problem solved) and the other is a new show with title similar or being matched with an older show (The Spy (2019))

This is what Plex is matching to “The Spy (2019)”

that is is the season level. that is why is says Season 1 at the top.

click the name of the show at either of the places the arrows are pointing to get to the show level from that screen

I understood… just didn’t do it correctly. Sorry…

But NOW when trying to match it cannot find “The Spy (2019)” in the database even though it IS IN TheTVDB.com

you can use the tvdb ID number. for that show it is 368109

The ID Number finally worked… But the title wasn’t no matter what I did.

Thanks for your help guys. Sorry I was doing it wrong at first…

fwiw, I could not get that show to match on the title using the TVDB, but if I changed the fix match search to use the Movie Database then it matched on the title using that.

I just noticed TheTVDB does not have the anything set for “first aired” for that show which is why i think it is having issues finding it. since that is where it searches for the year.

Yea… and at least I learned about theTVDB ID number… that’s a good trick to have in my bag…

I just figured out why I kept screwing up the Show Level vs. the Season Level… when there is only one season Plex automatically takes you to that season when you click on the show rather than the season level… I still feel dumb for making that mistake, just a little less dumb!
