Tip on Matching in the TVDB to Fix Wrong Result

I used this method to repair a wrong result using Fix Match with TVDB, and I just used it successfully for the second time, so I thought I would post and share since this issue can be maddening.

I was attempting to repair a bad match for the TV show “The Right Stuff (2020)”.
It initially matched to a reality show from 2019 with the same name. OK, so I do a Fix Match, change the year, remove the year, try just “Right Stuff”, and I even tried just “Right” and “Stuff”, but no dice. The only result is the 2019 reality show with the same name.

So I head on over to the TVDB website and enter “The Right Stuff (2020)”. There it is! But why can’t Plex retrieve it?

The secret to getting around this maddening issue is to copy an alternate show name as used in another country, in this case France, and try to search for that in Plex.

I copied the show name in French “L’Étoffe des héros”, entered this in Fix Match and Voila! (sorry), finally the correct show appears as the match, “The Right Stuff (2020)”.

I hope this little trick helps someone.

This probably should go in “Tips and Tricks”, but I guess you need special dispensation to post there

You can also use the TVDB series ID as the title under Match/Fix Match -> Search Options.

When you choose Match or Fix Match for a show, select “Search Options” from the resulting dialog. There, enter the TVDB series ID in the Title field and click Search:
