I have a downloaded TV show: Impossible BuIlds: Europe in the Desert pbs (title from download).
It is not properly matched, and instead I get some random image of a windows text screen.
I read the article at Support - Fix match, but couldn’t get anything from there to work (sorry, new at this!).
I tried to change the search options for this item, and even put in the IMDB URL (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8014698/) and to search IMBD, but no match.
Any hints please? TIA
Looking up tv shows on the IMDb won’t help much.
Plex is fetching data for tv shows from TheTVDB.
So:
-
look up your show over there:
https://www.thetvdb.com/series/342515
Use the spelling they use over there.
It appears you have only one episode out of 3. -
Stick to the Plex naming guidelines for tv shows
https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220687-naming-series-season-based-tv-shows/
If you want to make extra-sure, add the (year) to the show folder name.
TV Shows/Impossible Builds (2018)/Season 01/Impossible Builds - s01e02 - Europe In The Desert.mkv
-
if these are mp4 / m4v files, you better do the following before adding the show into your Plex library:
Go to
- Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under - Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
- Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
- After adapting all those settings and the file names and folder organisation, perform the Plex Dance
Thanks.
I’ll try this. But, do I have to separate movies, my-videos, and TV shows into separate folders?
I have things organized by topic; e.g. skiing, and would have some of each of those in that folder.
I’ll review the organization principles for Plex. I was hoping that by labeling it as home-movie, it would just give up on searching, and use an image from the file for the thumbnail. (Yes, these are all .mp4’s)
You can try your way by creating a library of the type ‘Other Videos’.
But you won’t get any metadata this way.
Without metadata, Plex also won’t be able to track your progress through a tv series.
