Match/Fix Match Not Finding TV Show

Hi All

I’m not entirely sure this is an issue with Plex, but I’m hoping someone can shed some light on what is going wrong here.

I use Plex to manage my video library and I’m trying to get the TV Show info for Detective Conan:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/detective-conan
ID: 72454

Plex cannot find this and only brings up another name: Case Closed, even when I use the ID to search.

However, when I look for ‘Case Closed’ by name in TVDB, it brings back an empty show with nothing in it with a completely different ID:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/caseclosed
ID: 354126

Any ideas why this is happening? I’ve also raised this with TVDB.

Many thanks in advance.

Well I don’t know what all the above is about but I believe that Plex uses IMDb.

try manually adding the details

Plex uses TheTVDB for TV shows.

Incorrect. Plex uses a mixture of TheTVDB, The Movie Database and Personal Media Shows data to pull information regarding TV Shows. I am well aware that I could enter all the information manually, but with 27 Seasons, that’s not feasible.

My question is regarding why the scraper isn’t preforming as expected. I suspect this is likely to be an issue with the TVDB, but was hoping someone might have come across a similar issue.

What naming and organization structure are you using? Do you have the files in appropriate subdirectores for each season? It doesn’t show the subdirectory in the Match screenshot you posted.

It should be:

J:/TV Series 3/Detective Conan
    /Season 01
      /Detective Conan - s01e01.ext
      /Detective Conan - s01e02.ext

With the library pointing at TV Series 3.

See Naming ‘Series’ & ‘Season’ Based TV Shows for additional info.

Edit: Noticed there is also a Detective Conan (2011) in the database. You may have to use Detective Conan (1994) & Detective Conan (1994) - sxxeyy.ext.

Yes, the libraries are correct with each episode in a separate folder. But this isn’t an issue with the episodes, but rather the TV show as a whole. Plex canoe seem to find the right one, even though it’s clearly there in TVDB.

I use the appropriate naming conventions for all of my TV and Movies. It just seems to have an issue with this one in particular. I am fairly well versed in overcoming most issues with Plex matching, but this one has me stumped.

I’ve tried quite a few different combinations of things in the search field just to get it to show up in the results, but nothing brings it back (including the addition of 1994). I ran a test and am able to return the Detective Conan (2011).

The odd thing is, I’m pretty sure it found it before. (I am currently rebuilding my library due to a Windows Update failure)

When you’re performing the Match, click on “Auto Match”. You’ll see a drop down list. Choose TheTVDB, then refresh the metadata.

I just tried it and it pulled up the correct metadata for the series.

I did try that, but it didn’t download any metadata. However, it did change the name to ‘Closed Case’. I’ll try again and see what happens.

So the manual search results are a false positive?

Plex has trouble with some TV shows, and it seems you have to jump through hoops to get a correct match.

For whatever reason, this one didn’t match automatically or when you first try the manual match. As soon as I picked TheTVDB it matched immediately. It did not give a list of shows to choose, it just matched and downloaded metadata.

Hmm…well maybe I was a bit too keen. I have selected the auto-match and requested a metadata refresh, so I’ll leave it alone and see what happens.

When I first added the folders to the library, it found everything else so I assumed it could not find a match, so I did a manual search. Because it wasn’t returning the show as listed on the TVDB website, it was confusing.

I agree, Plex is funny with TV Shows. Some seem to match even when it isn’t listed quite correctly, but others seem to need absolute precision.

Are your files perhaps in the mp4 container format?

Hi All

Many thanks for your assistance. This now resolved.

It is unclear as to the exact cause of the problem, but an administrator from TVDB advised that the ‘Closed Case’ entry was a duplicate and was possibly causing conflicts during the matching process. This has now been removed.

However, on the recommendation of @FordGuy61 I selected the Auto Match option, using TVDB and Plex has now pulled through the correct metadata.
