I have a television series that appears in all three databases (multiple seasons, every episode titled with synopsis, etc.). When I attempt to get the metadata, Plex incorrectly matches it to another show. I have tried to “Fix Match” and it won’t pull the correct show, only their own/incorrect version. When I attempt the workaround in the “Tips” are on the “Fix Match” Support Article (utilizing the search options and inputting the tvdb or imdb or tmdb-XXXXXX number), it still pulls in the incorrect show.
I am using the Plex Movie agent now that I’ve “upgraded” my library.
You are correct there, I should have said “Plex TV Series” Agent. It is in a TV Library.
My naming conventions are sound (or at least they match what I’ve done for previous shows and what Plex is showing in the article you linked).
I have tried all three options (TVDB, IMDB, and TMDB workarounds) and it still only pulls up the incorrect show. Do the workarounds even work anymore? I might be trying an old trick.
Actually, those aren’t intended as workarounds, but additional features of the new movie and TV agents. To the best of my knowledge, they work well, but I don’t do a lot with TV shows or movies. I’m not going to be much more help beyond these basic ideas.
Occasionally there are shows that give Plex trouble.
The new Plex Movie and TV Show scanners/agents are more stringent on naming and organization than the legacy scanners/agents. Follow the support document as closely as possible.
Adding the TVDB or TMDB ID to the show folder almost always ensures a correct match. IMDB IDs are not supported for TV shows. The ID must be in curly braces, not square brackets, parenthesis, etc.
Since Plex matched the show incorrectly, be sure and Plex Dance the entire show after renaming/reorganizing. This clears the incorrect matching information from the Plex database.
If none of the above work, can you provide a screenshot, directory listing, etc how you have the show named and organized, including which folder is added to the Plex library? Others can try to replicate and help find a solution.
