When will secure access be fixed? I use my own certificate (which the last update deleted thank you very much). It has been at least a month now.
What’s wrong with it? I routinely have to reload unsecured, is that it? How do you use your own certificate?
“I routinely have to reload unsecured.” That is the definition of a broken secure access system.
Use your own certificate:
- Purchase domain.
- Purchase SSL certification for web server on your domain.
- Install certificate and key on the Plex Server.
- Inform Plex in settings::server::network that you are using your own certificate (currently broken).
- Connect to plex.mydomain.net from inside or outside your LAN. No more secure/insecure BS. Secure some of the time is worthless.
Plex specific details can be found in the knowledge base. Domain/SSL details can be found online or from the company you buy your domain from.
What do you find lacking in the free certs Plex provides that are sourced from DigiCert?
Authenticity. The certificate does not have the name of a domain I own on it. A Certificate Authority has not verified that I own the domain and that I am in control of it. It will only work for Plex and only by accessing the cloud server.
As mentioned in the other post, I’m not familiar with using your own certificate, but I know that Plex will not delete it. All you do with Plex is point to the files. Except for reading the files, Plex does not interact with those files in any way.
Was your certificate working in the past? Have you read over this thread? http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/193413/plex-media-server-v0-9-14-0-custom-ssl-certificate Pay specific attention to the comments by rcombs who is our Plex expert on the topic.

You are mistaken here. The cert is made especially for you and your server. It is only valid for your server.
There is no such thing as a cloud server. There is only a Plex web app which can be loaded either from plex.tv or from your server directly. But this is only the application. The data are always coming directly from your server, properly encrypted.
Read more here how it’s all working. It is quite different from what you may think.
