my season 1 episodes of the Simpsons are correctly matched on everything BUT the title … deleting/unmatching/rematching/fixing … i’ve tried them all but no matter what i seem to do - the title (and sort) match with season 5 even though the descriptions are correct.
Long Version
i’ve got about 10 seasons worth of simpsons episodes and i noticed that season 5 wasn’t grabbing the data properly b/c I had screwy naming conventions going on with the files. I updated the file names and refreshed my directory. Unfortunately, I renamed them
Simpsons S01E01 —Insert Season 5 Episode Name—
Simpsons S01E02 —Insert Season 5 Episode Name—
and so forth … see the problem?
So I went back and fix that
Simpsons S05E01 —Insert Season 5 Episode Name—
and that fixed the problem with season 5, however … when i go to look at season 1 - all of the episodes are correct save for 2 fields: name and sort name. Deleting the files and then restoring them didn’t do the trick, unmatching and then matching the entire series didn’t do the trick, then i renamed the metadata in those fields using the browser… set those fields back to unlocked and guess what? it replaced them with the names of the season 5 episodes.
So for now, I’m just editing them and locking the fields but i sure as heck would like to know what’s wrong and what’s going on.
thats the correct way of formatting the TV show name. Did you refresh that section? It will dump/grab new metadata from scratch.
Also grab filebot so you don’t have to do all the manual work

Have you checked the files themselves to see if they have incorrect embedded metadata?
yup - it’s not at the file level - they seemed fine until i accidentally did that S01E01 thing

yup, it’s all been refreshed. filebot is awesome indeed

So you have the files named correctly, there’s no conflicting embedded metadata or nfo file and it still lists the episodes incorrectly?
exactly! it’s quite confusing … i’ve tried things like uninstalling the client apps (eg on my android, my macbook, my windows machine, and my fire tv) and nothing seems to wok
i can take some screenshots for you fine folks if you think it would help but i’m plain stumped … i even went through this process of renaming all of the files to not include any season / episode info (just the name of the file) - dumped the metadata - then renamed the files - then went back and grabbed the metadata and again, no dice. It’s grabbing all of the imagery, airdate, description, etc… correctly.

that is really odd. Curious, what meta agent are you using for tv? Shouldn’t be the reason why, just curious.
Download an plugin called “library updater”. and run it in tv. I suspect there’s more to it, but it’s worth a shot.
Yes please send screens.
I’ll throw some screens up next time i’m in front of my plex interface. i’ve tried all sorts of combinations but as of now - i’ve selected all of the available agents under Personal Media Shows, TheTVDB, and The Movie Database.
I’ve looked through the logs and see nothing there that suggest why this is happening. I’m running my plex install on top of an unraid installation if that helps you at all. In order to install the library updated don’t i need to install the Unsupported Appstore? I’ll go poke around with that.
try with the TVDB agent and make sure it’s on top.
No need for the UAS. It used to keep a directory of the 3rd party plugins but it hasn’t been updated in some time. You can install plugins directly, in the plugins folder in PMS. You’ll find most of them in these forums or github.
Something is definitely not right.
So I have zero idea why this seems to have resolved itself but since the latest build off Plex came out and I updated (on the 17th), I’m no longer having this problem. I could screen cap it for you still but all that would show you is a functioning page :-). If it pops up again i’ll toss you some more information, i’m fairly sure that your suggestion to re-order things was what did it and that something in my local files is (or was) corrupted.
sweet. You definitely want to have TVDB agent as the main meta source for your TV section and it needs to be on top as that’s where Plex will grab info from first. What it doesn’t get from TVDB, will then move on to the 2nd in the list and so on. Anyway glad it worked out.
