FLAC metadata never updated on metadata refresh

Hi,

For several years I’ve been noticing a bug affecting the Plex Media Server. I run the latest version on CentOS 7.

I have several music libraries full of FLAC files. PMS is configured to only use embedded Vorbis comments (no metadata lookup on the internet, no premium music library).

When a library is created, PMS will extract metadata from FLAC files during the first, initial scan. However, if the embedded Vorbis comments are later modified, PMS will not pick up the changes on further scans. Even triggering a manual metadata refresh on the whole library won’t help.

The only way to have PMS update the metadata is to move the files off the library folder, trigger a library scan to remove the items from the database, copy the items back and trigger another library scan. This is very inconvenient, especially when you have a lot of files to manage.

What can I do to help fixing this bug quickly ?

Many thanks,

Marin.

Unfortunately nothing.
It has been reported and there is already a feature request to make the Plex Dance obsolete.

I’m not sure the link is about the same issue: in my case, metadata are correctly retrieved on first scan, but never updated after that, even if the files are modified. This is not a file naming issue since I’m not dealing with movie/tv files. I’m not relying either on external metadata providers as PMS is configured to only use embedded Vorbis comments.

It is exactly the same issue.

Perhaps you renamed the files to a conforming name schema only after they were already (incorrectly) matched.
If this is the case […]

I did not.

Different triggers, same issue, same solution.
