FLAC not showing up on Plex

My Music library is mostly a mix of 320MP3 and FLAC. Both formats used to be listed by Plex, at no problem as I’m also very conscious of Tagging and Plex file nomenclature. But now for some time, Plex no longer listing and/or ignoring FLAC files.

Some previous posts mention similar behaviour, but don’t offer proper resolution (as I already tried much settings and troubleshooting).

Running latest server release on QNAP NAS. Also tried downgrade, at no success.

Thanks

Still no solution. Tags and file permission all in order (as it was working before).

Suggestions/Troubleshooting appreciated.

It has been 4 months now, and no support or posting.

It used to work at no problem, but suddenly FLAC dissapeared… and never returned (besides many tweaks attempt).

I’m a Lifelong paid Customer… what to say about a Company, from a product that I much like and share, but where there is NO SUPPORT whatsoever, but Only relies on the goodwill of its Customers to help one-another?!

It seems twisted…

Can you perhaps provide a visual example of what you’re seeing?

Are your MP3 and FLAC files in the same root music directory or are they separate?

Please forgive the mess which is my Library but FLAC works fine when named properly.

Actual sample of naming and structure please ?

ChuckPa

First of all, apologies for my “rant”… but in the other side, it seems got some “attention”.

Let me say that my Audio Library is for long carefully “manicured”… all MetaTags addressed by MP3Tag, folders properly posted… each CD carefully named and in proper folder… and naming standards as addressed by Plex.

As to say, it WORKS for years as I’m using Plex, and I can NOT figured out what changed… Plex Agents might be?!

The following is a snapshot (as requested):

QNAP/ Music/ Jazz/ Bill Charlap/ 01 Albums/ [MP3. FLAC]

Thank you, AE

Noooo FLACs…

Emby (through Volumio):

Plex (though Volumio):

As the snapshots above, all “other” Music Servers (Emby, other, or direct access) can identify FLAC… but not Plex.

First, you were showing me Album view - 25 albums, not track view.
That speaks entirely to the structure you have.

Yes, Emby is going to show you raw, Is that what you want?

You’re showing me Album view in Volumio too.

You’re not seeing TRACK view,

Look at Elton John - Diamonds

Elton John /
  Elton John - Diamonds/
    01 - Your Song.flac
    02 - Tiny Dancer.flac

Plex’s structure is:

Artist/ Album / [Disc n /] nn - title.ext

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200265296-adding-music-media-from-folders/

Which tool do you use to help organize & rename ?
I use Picard.

The File Naming rule I use is:

%albumartist%/
$if($ne(%albumartist%,),%album%,)/
$if($gt(%totaldiscs%,1),Disc %discnumber%/,)
$num(%tracknumber%,2) - %title%

This gives me : Artist / Album / Disc n (if greater than 1) / xx - Title

Hmmmm… thanks for note, but let’s say “I’m really confused now…” as previously posted, thought correctly organized per Plex requirements, and it indeed worked for years! (till one day suddenly disapered…).

I’m trying to figure out your posted “conflict” (if any), as my Library structure is:

 NAS/MusicFolder/Genre/Artist/Albums [MP3/FLAC]

Any wrong?

With appreciation, AE

NAS / - OK

MusicFolderTop/ - OK (Plex Points here if all music)

Genre/ - If you want different Genre Libraries then PMS points here else NO.

      Artist/ - Yes
        Album/ - Yes

Try this for me?

Copy a few albums over to a new directory. and use Plex’s “Artist - Album - track” structure.

Now create a test music library.

See if it picks everything up.

ChuckPa

Thank you once again in continue trying to solve this “puzzle”, but now its getting really “weird” as Plex definitely “filtering FLAC” somehow.

I copied Elton John to a higher level folder (where usually is “genre”). Elton John folder contains both 320MP3s and FLAC as the following:

Then, after finishing Music scanning, going to Folder view (for example), there is NO FLAC Directory… “disappeared”…

Thanks, AE

Can you show me the listing of files in folder 1990 Elton John TVB (2CD Comp) [320 MP3] ?

you can open in a CMD window and copy from there then paste the text into your reply here. It might be easier ?

In the screenshot above, you are in Folders view so that is what I expect to see.

Please note that in the screenshots above, I posted Windows FileExplorer, which shows all Elton John albums (MP3s e FLAC). And also a screenshot from Plex Elton John “new” folder where “2012 Diamonds (3CD Limited Ed; Comp) [FLAC]” doesn’t show. And this behaviour, it is same for ALL other Folders, as MP3s are listed, but not FLACs.

Per request, attach list files.

Elton John Diamonds MP3:
eltonjohnDiamonds-MP3.txt (3.9 KB)

Elton John Diamonds FLAC:
eltonjohnDiamonds-FLAC.txt (4.0 KB)

Thanks, AE

What are the advanced settings in your music library? Have you got “local metadata” checked?

My settings look like this.

I have a few collectors edition CDs that Plex didn’t detect properly, so I switched my settings to those above.

PLEX doesn’t like square brackets too much either - it tends ignore them. So, another reason for using your local metadata.

If both the MP3 and FLAC have the same metadata, are the tracks becoming grouped within the MP3 folder?

If you look at the tracks of one of the MP3 folders are they listed twice but the extension isn’t displayed?

To get around this issue since Plex does not sort by extension/type, I have two music libraries, one as MP3 (lossy) and the other as FLAC (lossless).
