Plex Server does not see my .flac files in Ubuntu. Files are shown be grayed out

Plex Server does not see my .flac files in Ubuntu. Files are listed but grayed out. Everything I read about in help files or forums suggests that the server will recognize and play flac files. Why is my plex different? Not sure the player version number is correct. I was unable to find a direct, immediate reference to the player version.

Also, the flac files have full permissions, access, read, and write.

After that can you perform a scan and post your server logs and identify a couple of files that are affected?

Are you in the Add or Edit Library UI? If so, you can only select folders here. You select the folder containing your music files. You can’t select the files themselves. Plex will scan the folder you select, and its sub-folders, for the music files.

This is where I’m having the issue;

I am selecting the folder in the Add and/or Edit Library UI, as I do with all of my other media files. However, the FLAC files are grayed out. The scan library function appears not to recognize FLAC files.

The individual files are always grayed out in that interface, because you can only select folders there. So that’s normal.

As to why Plex isn’t finding flac files: From what I can see in your screenshot, it looks like you have a lot of files from multiple artists in a flat folder. That is only going to work if:

  1. Plex is configured to use the ‘Plex Music’ agent, and
  2. ‘Prefer local metadata’ is enabled, and
  3. your embedded tags are meticulously correct.

If any of those conditions aren’t met, Plex depends heavily on the folder/filename structure of your media files, and they need to be organized in a way that Plex can recognize. In this case, Plex may have found the flac files, but it incorrectly cataloged them in one or more “Various Artists” albums somewhere. You might be able to confirm that by viewing your Library in Albums mode, sorted by Date Added.
