FLAC Sync (WITHOUT Transcoding)

It’s now May 2019 and you can STILL NOT sync FLAC files to the app. Can we please get going on this? I’ve been a plex user for years and yet no one wants to implement this. I don’t want a TIDAL subscription, I want to sync my own FLAC, that I OWN.

This is not a Plex issue, this is an ios issue. I can sync FLAC fine to my android devices. But I have to transcode (both in Plex, or outside of Plex) to add music to an Apple device.

We have been able to play FLAC files in the native audio player thats embedded in iOS for a little over a year now. So yes, it is a Plex issue. If you add FLAC files to the files app, it will play them just fine. The devices don’t have issues playing FLAC files.

This is most definitely a Plex iOS issue that needs to be addressed. iOS has natively supported FLAC since iOS 11, and the Plex iOS app has no problem streaming FLAC from my server. Just when I sync it to the app, it transcodes it to mp3 for some odd reason. So to listen to FLAC on my iPhone I need to go through a boatloads of cellular data which is super expensive here in Canada.
