I like to organise my music so where I have multiple versions of each album, (e.g. mono & stereo) they appear as separate discs of the same album (to save on clutter!). Each album is organised as, for example:
1964 Meet The Beatles [main folder]
- CD1 - Stereo [subfolder]
- CD2 - Mono [subfolder]
The FLAC files are tagged appropriately so both discs have the album title “Meet The Beatles” and disc numbers will be 1 & 2 respectively. I label the track titles with “(Stereo)” and “(Mono)” so i know which version is playing.
I’m finding with this approach, whenever I scan my music, Plex combines and renames the track tags, so it shows as 1 Disc, with duplicates of each track. It also removes my “(Stereo)” and “(Mono)” designation.
To confirm, I have ‘Prefer Local Metadata’ checked. To mitigate, I manually amended the files on the Plex server (rather than re-editing the tags - they are showing as accurate in Foobar2000). But every time I re-scan, the metadata changes back. It’s so frustrating but it never used to do this. I’ve had PLEX for nearly 3 years but only noticed this in the last month or so.
Have I done something wrong? As a test, I tried creating a new library with just my Beatles folder but it still ignores my local metadata.
