I had to factory reset my Unifi Gateway, and when setting back up my remote connection to PMS, it shows green for a few seconds then jumps to red. However, I’m still able to remotely play stuff. When I play something though, it shows as “Indirect” in the Activity Dashboard. I’m not behind a CGNAT, and I have changed my DNS settings to Google just for good measure (8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4). I would like to think its my port forwarding rule, but if it weren’t right, it wouldn’t allow me to play anything remotely at all. What could I be missing here? Thanks!
Not necessarily. If the dashboard shows “Indirect” that means it’s using Plex Relay (playback is proxied through Plex’s servers). You can verify this by disabling relay and seeing if playback still works.
You should probably double check that port forward rule. Here’s what a working rule should look like in a Unifi environment (Forward IP should be set to the IP address of your Plex server):
Also, in your Plex server’s remote access settings, ensure you have checked the box for "Manually specify public port and set it to match “Port” as configured in your port forwarding rule in Unifi.
Click “Enable” or “Retry” (whichever is shown) after making this change.
