Flatpak plex cant login

Hello

I installed plex from flathub. I open it, and click on login. Nothing happens.

I click multiple time on login button and then get the message: “Plex is down for maintenance. Don’t worry, it will be back soon.”

Then I can click below the message on status.plex.tv.

So I think, ok I only have chromium installed, lets install firefox and see if it works. So I install firefox and I reboot the system and get the still the same result.

Ok maybe plex needs chromium or firefox from flathub. So I install chromium & firefox with flatpak from flathub. I reboot the system and get the same result.

Ok so maybe because im on i3, probably needs gnome to work. So I install a whole desktop environment so that I can login. I install gnome, reboot and still get the same result.

Maybe plex doesnt like xorg, so I start gnome with wayland. Reboot the system and still get the same result.

So I try the snap package of plex instead of flatpak, maybe that’s gonna work. Still the result with snap.

So I setup a ubuntu VM to test if it is going to work there with plex flatpak.

Boom it works on ubuntu VM. It opens chromium and I can login over chromium and plex flatpak now is logged in. Everything works on the VM.

Can somebody help me?

######Edit Solved######

I had to install a whole ■■■■■■■ desktop environment so that the ■■■■■■ flatpak passes the url to my browser. After login worked, I deinstalled the desktop environment. I choosed KDE as desktop environment. I really dislike flatpak and wish it was never developed. Same ■■■■ as appimage and snap. This had nothing to do with plex but instead was caused because of flatpak. I really wish plex would do it like with plexamp where you can choose direct login or using the browser or like tv apps using authenticating code.

I am having the same issue on the Steam Deck, when in desktop mode, which is KDE anyway. And I still can’t get any login pop up no matter what I try. It would be good if the developers could implement the same plex.tv/link login method as in the HTPC version

If anyone has any other workarounds without a second KDE install, please let me know. I even tried figuring out what URL it points to in order to try it manually, but no luck.

Well I have managed to make this work on the steam-deck, after trying EVERYTHING, even the snap install. It turns out its something to do with x-auth, but i am not smart enough to know what. I was following this thread: xauth cookie is not properly refresh switching between desktop/gaming modes · Issue #775 · ValveSoftware/SteamOS · GitHub and then enabled this command and browsers opened systemctl restart --user xdg-desktop-portal when i attempted to login. Pretty sure this is a steamOS issue not a Plex flatpak issue!
