Flickering secure connection / frequent disconnects

Server Version#: 1.42.2.10156
Player Version#: Plex Web, Plex for Mac

I’m seeing a flickering connection to my Plex Media Server hosted on a seedbox. Every ~30–60 seconds the server briefly reports a secure connection issue, which interrupts playback and causes infinite buffering until I refresh (the cycle repeats each time).

This affects Plex for Web and the Mac app. Plex for iOS seems unaffected and plays normally. I’ve tested from different ISPs (home Wi-Fi and cellular) and the issue is the same. I haven’t changed any settings.

I’ve already:

  • Restarted Plex

  • Run Upgrade & Repair

  • Re-claimed the server

  • Checked with the seedbox provider

The provider pointed out repeated failures in the logs showing Plex losing connectivity to Plex’s own services:

I checked in this thread, but was told it’s not a cert issue in my case, so I’m creating a new thread.

Thank you!

Restart PMS, wait 3 minutes and pull the logs again. Right now it looks like it only has local loopback for network.

Did the restart, but the logs are 5h old when I export. Not sure if this works for you:

Plex Media Server.log (525.7 KB)

Looks to be working now, probably a temporary problem with your provider that required a restart.

Thanks, but sadly the issue is still occurring.

Restarting PMS temporarily stabilizes things, but the problem returns shortly after. I’m still seeing brief secure-connection drops every ~30–60 seconds that interrupt playback (buffering until refresh).

This happens consistently on Plex Web, Mac, LG, Apple TV across different ISPs (and countries). Plex for iOS continues playing without interruption. Jellyfin on the same server is stable.

This doesn’t look like a one-time provider outage, but an intermittent loss of Plex cloud/secure connectivity that causes clients to react differently. Happy to try something else and/or provide additional logs if there’s something specific to capture during one of the drops?

Screenshots to show the cycle; not sure how helpful these are:

Well unless the provider has gotten themselves blocked by Plex you will have to walk through your config verifying everything.

Looks like you are possibly editing your server logs, so I cannot see what hosting provider you use.

Which service do you use?

I’m using Ultra.cc. The logs are taken straight form the Plex export, I didn’t touch them; not sure what went wrong there.

Will contact Ultra again, but they seemed sure this was a Plex issue (seems to be the case, since it’s client-dependent).

I’m seeing a similar issue. Hoping to follow along in this thread

Heard back from Ultra, turns out it might have been their side after all. They said they’re “having networking bonding issues” and it appears to have been fixed, so if this holds it wasn’t Plex after all. Thank you for your help!

@ahnaf see if that solution applies to you too?

Ah I don’t think my issue is similar, but it gives me hope to see someone else’s issue resolved

@ahnaf Please create a new thread for your issue and we can take a look.
